Job Summary/Basic Function:
The Executive Director is responsible for leading and managing TechHelp - a partnership of Boise State University, Idaho State University, the University of Idaho, and the Idaho Manufacturing Alliance. As Idaho's Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) Center and Economic Development University Center, TechHelp provides technical and business assistance to enhance the competitiveness of manufacturers across the state of Idaho.
Department Overview:
TechHelp is a partnership of Boise State University, Idaho State University, the University of Idaho, and the Idaho Manufacturing Alliance. As Idaho's Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) Center and Economic Development University Center, TechHelp provides for-fee technical and business assistance to enhance the competitiveness of manufacturers across the state of Idaho.
Level Scope:
Directs through subordinate Managers multiple large and complex critical programs impacting broad constituencies across major portions of campus. Identifies objectives, manages very significant human, financial, and physical resources, and functions with an extremely high degree of autonomy. Accountable for formulating and administering policies and programs for major functions. Operational or program results can affect overall campus wide performance and reputation. Directs through subordinate Managers the development of strategic goals and objectives to achieve accountability and stewardship of university resources in a manner consistent with campus and system wide objectives and initiatives.
Essential Functions:
60% of the time the TechHelp, Executive Director must:

  • Lead the TechHelp organization to fulfill its MEP mission, remain a Center in good standing relative to university, state, and federal funders, and remain financially sound.
  • Provide organizational vision and lead strategic planning efforts.
  • Facilitate field consulting operations, including business development and sales, project work oversight, capacity management, standard project pricing, and client satisfaction.
  • Advocate for employee satisfaction and professional development of staff.
  • Regularly travel to field operations across Idaho.
  • Secure and manage on-going and new grants to maintain and grow the TechHelp program.
  • Coordinate TechHelp activities with university units and public agencies in the State of Idaho.
  • Lead the TechHelp management/support team to ensure satisfaction of federal grant funders, state government and university stakeholders.
35% of the time the TechHelp, Executive Director must:
  • Ensure the systems and processes are in place to manage federal cooperative agreement and other grants; state agency appropriation; for-fee public events and programs; client relationships, projects, and billing; and partner relationships and agreements.
  • Manage financial and other key partner relationships that contribute to critical center metrics, including clients, revenue, economic impact and grant cost share.
  • Build and maintain professional relationships with other key university, state, federal, non profit and private organizations that can further TechHelp's mission.
  • Additional duties as determined by department and university needs.
5% of the time the TechHelp, Executive Director must:
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience working with partners to manage federal grant programs.
  • Experience in managing a consulting practice, including client business development (sales), new product and service development, and organizational management.
  • Experience using continuous improvement tools (LEAN, Six Sigma, etc.).
  • Experience with manufacturing businesses.
  • Ability to effectively problem solve and make decisions.
  • Oral and written communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to multitask.
Minimum
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree and 10 years experience or equivalent including 6 years managerial experience.
Salary and Benefit
s:
Salary range is $125,000 to $139,651.20 annually, commensurate with experience.
