We are seeking an exceptional Lead Automation Engineer to join our growing Engineering team.

We are looking for an experienced and forward-thinking automation engineer who can thrive in a fast-paced environment. In the first 24 months, assignments will include experience in a variety of key roles as the team builds the business.

What you will do
  • As a Lead Automation Engineer, you will work closely with internal stakeholders to deeply understand assembly processes and develop more efficient and automated ways to improve operational performance.
  • Develop creative solutions that revolutionize and drive efficiencies into existing assembly processes.
  • Collaborate closely with manufacturing operations and software/firmware engineers in the use of machine learning techniques to rapidly optimize new assembly techniques.
  • Lead the industry in automation of fiber optic manufacturing processes - you will do what could not be done before by others.

What you will need
  • BS degree in mechanical or electrical engineering / motion controls / robotics / automation
  • Successful track record in developing and implementing industry leading automation projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to invent and implement new automation processes and machines that meaningfully increase the efficiency of our assembly operations. This will include:

-Creation of new automation processes/machines

-Conceptualization through CAD modeling of new process/machines

-Design and fabrication of newly created automation machines
  • Familiarity with motion control

-Stepper and servo motors

-Miniature motion devices (stepper motors, solenoids)

-Robotics

-Collaborative 6 degree of freedom robots

-Automated adhesive dispensing systems for small form factor applications

  • Knowledge of sensor integration and signal conditioning

-Computer vision process monitoring

-Pass/fail process visual recognition, tracking, and database population

-RFID sensing

-Process operator recognition and data recording

-Machine learning algorithms for automated process teaching, learning, and refinement

-Optical, Inductive, Tach, Location, Acceleration

-Machine vision (to 5 micron resolution)

-Computer vision process monitoring

-Pass/fail process visual recognition, tracking, and database population

-RFID sensing

-Process operator recognition and data recording

-Laser displacement

Mechanical and hardware design experience
  • Solidworks design of automation machines
  • PCBA design, analysis, test, integration, and rapid prototyping
  • Preferred hardware design experience

-WiFi, BLE, RFID, Zigbee, LoRa, HMI, FP

Embedded firmware design (preferred)
  • C/C++

  • Python

OS Familiarity (preferred)
  • Linux
  • Windows
  • FreeRTOS

Processor / controller usage experience
  • ARM & variants of ARM
  • Raspberry and Orange Pi
  • Microchip PIC
