Job Summary:

The Information Technology Director of Administrative Information Services provides leadership for the strategy, management, integration/implementation, support and maintenance of information systems in support of patient care, education, and research at Upstate Medical University.

The Administrative Information Systems department is comprised of 50 developers divided into three sub departments which this position will oversee:
  • Administrative Applications: responsible for information technology that supports core hospital and college business functions such as human resources, payroll, parking, accounting, public safety, admissions, financial aid and registration. Administrative Applications writes and maintains multiple bi-directional system interfaces to and from the Human Resources database. These interfaces include passing data to and from NYS Agencies such as: SUNY Central and the Office of the State Comptroller.
  • Decision Support: provides hospital departments with the tools, technology, and applications to access clinical, financial, and administrative information on a timely basis. The development of an enterprise data repository makes information available to support the hospital's critical planning, management, and decision-making activities. Decision Support programmers and analysts assist departmental users in determining the information necessary to satisfy specific business requirements and reporting needs.
  • Web Applications: responsible for internal and external applications, including 100+ applications and 3,000+ reports. The Web Applications team assists departmental users in defining and building solutions to make process improvements and applications that provide business areas with the tools and information they need to do their jobs.

In addition to overseeing the Administrative Applications, Decision Support, and Web Applications departments, the Director of Administrative Information Services:
  • Will have oversight for all major implementations and support activities related to applications, including timely delivery and budget management.
  • Ensures that departmental initiatives are aligned with institutional and information technology strategic plans and goals.
  • Manages the allocation of staff, financial resources, and all other resources within the department.
  • Oversees data warehouse and reporting, administrative applications, and internal applications development.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree and five years relevant information systems experience (healthcare setting preferred).
  • Previous staff supervision and project management experience required.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior experience with SUNY Upstate systems, applications and technologies, is desired.
  • Experience with governance and project prioritization is strongly desired as is out-of-the-box thinking and the adoption of emerging technologies and contemporary development tools.
  • Epic Systems experience is preferred.
