Obsidian Solutions Group (OSG) is seeking a Countermeasures Engineer I to support The Bureau of Diplomatic Security (DS), which is the security and law enforcement arm of the U.S. Department of State (the Department). DS is a world leader in international investigations, threat analysis, cyber security, counterterrorism, security technology, and protection of people, property, and information. Its primary mission is to provide a safe and secure environment for the conduct of U.S. foreign policy. The Office of Security Technology (ST) supports the DS mission through the application and use of appropriate technical security countermeasures.


Specific Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the design, installation, operation, and lifecycle maintenance of advanced countermeasures systems primarily at overseas diplomatic facilities. Team builds and configures countermeasures to ensure proper functionality and operation.
  • Ensures interoperability of highly technical equipment through the management of hardware and software configuration changes.
  • Provides technical support for all phases of countermeasures systems which includes pre-installation, installation, and post installation. Coordinates all reporting which includes pre- and post-trip technical reports and summaries.
  • Offers a thorough understanding of engineering and physics.
  • Assists in the evaluation and development of new countermeasure systems and test equipment, documenting capabilities, identifying potential limitations, and making appropriate recommendations.
  • Trains Department of State personnel on the techniques required to maintain, install, and operate countermeasures.
  • Conduct independent research on emerging technologies with minimal oversight or guidance and can conduct laboratory or field testing.
  • Assist in drafting and review of technical security policies and operational guidelines involving state of the countermeasures systems and facilitates their integration into the Department of State's buildings.
  • Assist in gathering information on new technologies or capabilities, and any previous associated research/whitepapers found on those technologies and participates and project design and review meetings.
  • Coordinate travel and site support for self. Assists with equipment upgrades, repairs, and replacements.
  • Draft surveys for new installations of countermeasures at existing facilities.
  • Conduct user training on multiple existing and upcoming systems.
  • Read, interpret, and create electrical and electromechanical schematics and architectural drawings, including electrical/mechanical building systems drawings.


Requirements:
  • Must have a current U.S. Government final receive TOP SECRET Personnel Clearance and be able to qualify for SCI access (SSBI less than 4.5 years old).
  • Minimum (2) two years of work experience in engineering or physics, with a Bachelor's Degree or higher in engineering or physics.
  • Must possess intermediate skills using Microsoft Project, Visio, and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook) business software.
  • Understanding of the Internet of Things (IOT), security systems and latest associated trends. Ability to demonstrate a good attitude and ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Must have the ability to multi-task efficiently, work in a fast-paced environment on multiple projects and have a strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to read, interpret and create electrical and electromechanical schematics and architectural drawings, including electrical/mechanical building systems drawings.
  • Understanding of MATLAB, Python, C++ or other programming languages and experience working with databases.


Physical Requirements and Work Environment

  • Shift: Monday – Friday
  • Normal office environment
  • Travel
  • 15 – 40%

Travel Requirements


  • Required to travel OCONUS to conduct installation, training, or maintenance at Department of State diplomatic facilities. OCONUS travel may include critical threat locations around the world with austere living conditions. CONUS travel may be required for training and program coordination.
