Director of Alumni Engagement and Special Events at Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee

Job Description:

The Alumni Engagement Manger will assist AVP, Alumni Engagement of developing and coordinates programs and initiatives that build strong relationships with alumni and encourages their active participation as members of the Meharry College family. Foster a culture of philanthropy for alumni. Creates synergies with other University events to engage alumni. We are seeking a collaborative, mission- driven individual with a keen eye for detail and a passion for Meharry Medical College. Manages communication efforts for donors such as cards, newsletters, mailings, etc. and maintains key partnership with National Alumni Association team to ensure the MMC brand, designs, and standards are utilized in a unified manner.



Daily Operations



  • The Engagement Manager is responsible for executing high-volume outreach with current and prospective donors for cultivation and engagement with alumni donors. Curate meaningful experiences that foster connections between alumni and university through various initiatives

  • Assists the AVP, Alumni Engagement with planning National Medical Association (NMA) and National Dental Association (NDA) conferences as well as identifying campus ambassadors for the faculty & staff campaign

  • Intentionally collaborate with other campus departments to invite alumni to events. Engage alumni with the College initiatives (150 Campaign, state and regional events)

  • Provide support to all functions of the team, to include Meharry National Alumni Association with a particular focus on class reunion compiling, drafting and proofing various types of correspondence for class reunions and all alumni engagement activities (affinity groups) create content for hard copy event invitations, including location, date, time, cost(s):for Class Reunions and social engagements event(s).

  • Responsible for tracking and communicating stewardship activities and recording as actions in database

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.




Required Skills



  • Passion for making connections and having conversations daily with new people; driven to meet high-volume metrics with urgency and to make an impact in the overall reunion class gifts.

  • Willingness and ability to connect, engage, and directly solicit prospects for reunion class gifts

  • Energized through social interactions and comfortable with making direct asks of alumni and having purposeful conversations that build relationships and have an impact on goals and metrics

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to exercise good judgment in the handling of confidential information

  • Ability to use current computer technology, such as Windows, Excel, Word, Raiser's Edge

  • Travel as required

  • Periodic evening and weekend work may be required

  • Planning and implementing special events for alumni

  • Adept in digital communication and maintaining an interactive online presence

  • Strong work ethic and ability to work independently, self-motivated.

  • Desire and skill set to engage an alumni base from various generations, genders, and cultural backgrounds.

  • Comfort with last minute changes and adjustments

  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned




Required Education and Experience



  • Bachelor's degree, or the equivalent, is necessary

  • Two year of relevant experience, or the equivalent, is necessary
