Andes has developed a Carbon Program based on carbon removal technology that uses beneficial microbes to convert CO? into stable minerals in agricultural soils. In this Program, Andes partners with growers to apply microbial inoculant to agricultural fields across the US Midwest. The Operations team leads the execution of this program, which includes farmer enrollment, soil sampling, and credit verification. The company is in a phase of rapid expansion, extending its operations throughout the US Midwest.

About the role

We are seeking a motivated, outstanding, and dynamic Head of Operations to join our team to lead our rapidly expanding Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) Program. This is a pivotal role at Andes, responsible for overseeing the Andes Carbon Program, enhancing existing processes, and building the foundation for future program growth. This role involves a blend of strategic planning, operational efficiency, team leadership, and process optimization. The Head of Operations will play a critical role in scaling up the company's operations and ensuring operational excellence.

Location: Alameda, CA (on-site position)

Key Responsibilities:

Operational Leadership and Team Development
  • Lead a large team to achieve Carbon Program objectives
  • Oversee team development, recruitment, and training to ensure program success
  • Cultivate a high-performance culture emphasizing quality practices and data-driven decision-making

Strategic Planning and Execution
  • Develop and implement strategic initiatives to achieve Carbon Program expansion plans and fulfill customer commitments
  • Ensure Carbon Program alignment with commercial goals to generate high-quality carbon credits and meet customer needs

Process Enhancement and Technology Implementation
  • Drive process enhancements across Carbon Program to align with company objectives, reduce costs, and facilitate growth
  • Lead the integration of new technological improvements developed by Andes' teams into the Carbon Program, ensuring seamless integration and collaboration across various departments within Andes, such as the Technology team

Risk Management and Contingency Planning
  • Develop and implement risk management strategies specific to the Carbon Program, identifying potential operational risks and creating effective mitigation plans
  • Develop contingency plans to address critical disruptions, such as supply chain issues, technological failures, or regulatory changes.

Budget Management
  • Oversee the Carbon Program budget, implementing cost-effective strategies while maintaining high standards of quality and efficiency

Required Qualifications and Skills:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Operations Management, or quantitative discipline. An MBA or relevant advanced degree is preferred
  • 7-10 years of operations management experience, including overseeing complex and remote teams greater than 50 in size
  • Proven track record of successfully scaling operations in a growth-oriented company
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams through periods of change and growth
  • Proficiency in data analysis, performance metrics, and process optimization methodologies (e.g., Six Sigma, Lean)
  • Exceptional problem-solving abilities with the capability to synthesize complex issues and present clear recommendations
  • Experience managing contract labor, including seasonal capacity adjustments
  • Knowledge of agriculture is a plus

Career Path: The Head of Operations may progress to higher roles such as VP of Operations or other executive level position.

Compensation and Benefits:
