Job Summary

Responsible for participating in project teams, researching technical topics related to Company operations, new product implementation, assisting with existing products and services and the overall upkeep and maintenance of designated areas of engineering. Performs event correlation and identifies probable root cause; provides trouble isolation, basic troubleshooting and break/fix activities.

Please note:

  • This is a night shift role with a rotating weekend on call schedule.

  • This is a Comcast Engineer 1 level role.

Core Data Center Responsibilities:

  • Tier one support for break fix

  • Auditing of environment daily and monthly

  • The overall rack, stack, power & cabling of equipment within the Data Center.

  • Interfacing with vendors to install, maintain, troubleshoot and decom related equipment.

  • Maintain and troubleshoot Data Center cabling infrastructure and day to day capacity requirements.

  • Streamlining Methods and Procedure for day-to-day operational effectiveness.

  • Manage Data Center cable running lists, and records of deployed equipment.

  • Inventory management of copper, fiber, and power cord with little to no guidance.

  • Data Center FE escorts and ensures security procedure compliance.

  • Available 24/7 via phone

Additional Specific Responsibilities:

  • Serves as an onsite Data Center Operations Engineer and collaborates with others to deploy effectively & efficiently, audit, decommission, migrate, and provide a 24x5 onsite technical hands-on break fix support. Provides rotational on call support on weekends.

  • Assists in team workload, including change control, resolution of stake holder issues, resources, schedules, and timelines to ensure that implementation is on track for overall project success and reporting.

  • Day to day facilitation of deployment methodology and standards.

  • Provides escalation to layer one leadership, technical assistance, and operational support.

  • Maintains, and oversees MOPS for installations and maintenance of critical facilities and structured cable plant.

  • Functions as resource to support BAU, POR, Network Builds, Migrations, Hardware maintenance, and hands-on / break fix in accordance with SLA's

  • Placing devices in cabinets using on KW availability, physical space, cooling, port availability, structured cable plant and application device requirements.

  • Full life cycle of install & decom processes of rack mountable equipment (severs, switches, storage, firewalls, load balancers, and other network devices) in a NDC and RDC environment.

  • Follow design specifications and works directly with vendor(s) on infrastructure and staff.

Skills & Experience We're Looking For:

  • At least 1 year of experience in deployment and installation of switches, routers and servers

  • At least 1 year of experience in High Speed Data, Voice, IP and Data Networking.

  • Knowledge of aspects of power generation and power distribution including facility and cabinet based PDU's, ATS's, and UPS's.

  • Diverse knowledge of Power & HVAC data center dynamics.

  • Experience to effectively plan project installations and forecast infrastructure growth - including deployment accuracy, ordering supplies, maintaining inventory control, and documenting processes.

  • Basic knowledge of all current types of networking and server hardware.

  • Demonstrated experience of documenting & developing policies and procedures.

  • Experience project management, analytical, problem solving and organizational abilities.

  • Superior interpersonal skills with the ability to work with vendors, employees, and management.

  • Good personal computer skills.

Required Skills:

  • Knowledge of Infrastructure planning and vendor management

  • Solid technical skills relative to HSD and Voice network engineering, planning and management including experience with IP routers, switches and CMTS equipment

  • Understanding of the IP protocol suite (e.g. ARP, IP, TCP, DNS, SNMP)

  • Knowledge of server administration (i.e. Unix, Linux and Windows platforms)

  • Strong understanding of AC/DC power configurations and HVAC related thermal architecture

  • Data Center planning and engineering

  • Solid abilities using Microsoft Office

  • Proven analytical skills

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
