MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELOR – Community Support Program

$2,000 SIGNING BONUS

Pay starting at $55,068.00 and up, depending on education/experience + mileage reimbursement

If you have experience working in Adult Foster Care with adults recovering from mental illness, Independent Living Skills (ILS), residential mental health treatment (IRTS), MI/CD services, or other mental health services, you may be ready to take the next step in your career as a Mental Health Counselor!

In this position you will: provide direct services to a caseload of clients diagnosed with serious and persistent mental illness to improve their abilities with working in a regular or supported environment, handling basic daily living activities, participate in leisure time activities, set goals and plans and obtain and maintain appropriate living arrangements.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide and coordinate CSP services utilizing a team approach to promote individual recovery and community integration.
  • Provide input in the development of program objectives, systems, and procedures; participate in team goal setting and implementation.
  • Complete intakes/member applications and follow-up interviews.
  • Support individual development, assess individual needs, monitor progress, and provide additional resources when deemed necessary.
  • Assist individuals with developing and progressing toward obtaining their stated goals.
  • Facilitate groups in conjunction with other team members to promote peer support and knowledge about managing the challenges of living with a mental illness in the community.
  • Assist in design and implementation of volunteer and vocational training opportunities to promote employment skills development and consumer involvement in program.
  • Facilitate program activities for drop-in center component to promote development of social/recreational opportunities and problem-solving skills for individuals.
  • Monitor safety and appropriateness of drop-in center activities.
  • Provide crisis assistance and facilitate individual development of crisis management plans.
  • Coordinate services with the individual’s case manager and other mental health providers, providing referrals to community resources.
  • Provide supportive housing services to assist individuals in finding or maintaining safe, affordable housing, as well as establishing and maintaining independent living.
  • Provide housing support services including referrals, assistance with applications, appeals, and linkage to ongoing support services.
  • Support individual development, assess individual needs, monitor progress, and provide additional resources when deemed necessary.
  • Assist individuals with developing and progressing toward obtaining their stated goals.
  • Coordinate services with the individual’s case manager and other mental health providers, providing referrals to community resources.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with the agency and community to promote the mission of MHR.
  • Document all relevant detail pertaining to individual services in order to maintain quality.

Minimum Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in social work/psychology or human services related field with two years of experience in related positions; at least one year includes experience in community based mental health with adults recovering from mental illness or combination of equivalent experience and training.
