TRAVEL: As required to fulfill the responsibilities of the position


ASRT, Inc. provides scientific, information management, management consulting, bioinformatics, and administrative program support to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and other Federal and private sector clients. The successful candidate will be a full-time employee of ASRT, Inc. and will be assigned to the Enteric Diseases Epidemiology Branch (EDEB) at the CDC, 1600 Clifton Road, Atlanta, GA 30333.


SCOPE OF WORK

The Epidemiologist II will serve on a CDC's team of lead epidemiology and surveillance group for tracking pathogens and identifying sources for bacterial enteric (intestinal) infections transmitted by food and other routes. EDEB is a branch within the Division of Foodborne, Waterborne, and Environmental Diseases (DFWED).


MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Epidemiologist II will work in the field of infectious and zoonotic diseases, specifically those related to tracking pathogens and identifying sources for bacterial enteric (intestinal) infections transmitted by food and other routes. The specific projects involve defining statistical problems and analyzing and developing plans and requirements for moderately complex-to-complex systems. Coordinating and managing the preparation of analysis and evaluations. Working independently or on a team, job responsibilities include:

  • Manage, collect, and analyze national-level data to determine foodborne illness trends and inform food safety policy.
  • Manage surveillance systems and other epidemiologic study databases, including data management from provisioning, receipt, transformation, cleaning, and analysis.
  • Gather information from and communicate with federal, state, and local public health partners in foodborne disease outbreak investigation, surveillance, and prevention activities.
  • Identify disease and foodborne outbreak clusters using surveillance data.
  • Establish and maintain procedures/guidelines for internal operations.
  • Support CDC's efforts in developing messaging to partners and the American public.
  • Develop and present training materials to the Division of Foodborne, Waterborne, and Environmental Diseases (DFWED), state health departments, and national conferences.
  • Support the development and publication of manuscripts and publications related to CDC's work in foodborne illness and surveillance and prevention activities.
  • Provide surveillance data on websites available to the public in accordance with CDC data release guidelines.
  • Provide regular reporting on project and work progress to internal (supervisory, peer, leadership) and external partners.
  • Participate in working meetings and conference calls, including setting up meetings for external partners and facilitating conversations, as directed.
  • Collaborate with other epidemiologists to analyze data collected through foodborne disease cohort studies and translate the research findings that may be used for disease prevention activities.
Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS


Education and Experience:

  • Master's degree in epidemiology with at least 2-4 years of experience in a relevant public health field.
  • Experience defining research parameters and leading data analysis.
  • Strong statistical background is preferred.

Language Skills:

  • The candidate must possess excellent oral and written communication skills in English.

REQUIREMENT: Must be a United States citizen or permanent resident or have authorization for employment in the United States.
