Job Summary

The Sr Systems Administrator will be a part of our Infrastructure and Cloud Operations Team. Working collaboratively the Sr Systems Administrator is expected to support both on-premises and cloud infrastructure. They will be developing best practices, bringing your experience to bear on the challenges we face as Murphy Oil Corporation transitions to the cloud. The Sr Systems Administrator should have experience in helping to develop and foster a DevOps culture, working with IAC, Azure cloud services, and networking. Manage the data center hosting operations & Window Server Infrastructure for a regional Data Center for Murphy Oil. They will work in Windows Server Administration and manage Active Directory, Exchange, DNS, DHCP & server (Dell/HPE UCS) hardware. The Sr Systems Administrator will manage Windows File & Print Servers. And they will be responsible for installing and troubleshooting Windows based applications, Windows patching tools like SCCOM server, Qualys, In-Tune and Windows security standards & OS Hardening concepts. This role will also be accountable for monitoring tools like SCCOM and Solar Winds. The Sr Systems Administrator will use their knowledge of Data Center technologies in managing Data Center operations and gradually migrate to managing cloud

The Sr Systems Administrator will work in our Houston Corporate office and may work two (2) days a week remotely.

Responsibilities



  • Serve as a critical member of the infrastructure team

  • Responsible for management of windows infrastructure (servers/AD), Physical & Cloud networking, On-prem and cloud-based storage solutions, backup strategy

  • Migrating/Deploying/Managing Azure resources. Will participate in on-call rotation. Should support and network services and telephony

  • Develop scripting for (IAC) cloud development/deployment and experience in one or more scripting languages (PowerShell, Python, Bash, etc.) Familiar with CI/CD pipelines, Version control (git/git lab/Azure DevOps). Develop the optimum design for SD Wan, VPN, express routes, SASE framework and implement CASB technology

  • Configure, Deploy and manage virtual server environments - including VMware and Hyper-V cluster deployments and other like virtual servers.

  • Manage and administer physical and virtual servers both on premise and cloud

  • Support and manage server virtualization, server provisioning, and physical server maintenance.

  • Deploy and manage Windows and Linux (Riva, Redhat, Ubuntu) servers.

  • Manage and deploy high-availability automation within the virtual environment.

  • Maintain server lifecycle - provisioning, maintenance, and decommissioning of the hardware.

  • Monitor the virtual infrastructure environment's health, service, and utilization.
  • Implement and maintain continuous compliance to information security policies and technical standards, report, and remediation of non-compliance.

  • Maintain security compliance.

  • Create detailed documentation and runbooks for various assigned projects and implementations

  • Determine project workloads and time estimates, T-Shirt sizing, etc.

  • Define work with the team to help define metrics for infrastructure/cloud operations. Help set the direction for the next generation of configuration management and evolution of platforms to cloud-native technologies

  • Partner with Information Security and Global Controls organizations to ensure security, audit, SOX and compliance requirements are met across infrastructure services
  • Be able to communicate calmly and clearly both intra-team and to other business units and leadership. Foster collaboration, supporting your fellow teammates and lifting each other up
  • Experience analyzing and reviewing IT investments and services to ensure they align with the business needs and strategy
  • Ability to communicate fluently in architecture, business and technical terminology and traverse seamlessly among each as needs and audience dictate

  • Influence strategic decision making with internal and external stakeholders through positive collaboration
  • Proactively research and share best practices on emerging technologies to enable continuous improvement
  • Establish strong and lasting relationships with key stakeholders and decision makers in internal IT and business community

Licenses/ Certifications

  • Compute, Storage, Sysadmin or Network certification
  • Any cloud architecture certification
  • Solution Architect certification, preferred
  • Security certification

Qualifications/Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 14 years' experience as a software engineer with 5 years' experience as Infrastructure resource and working in an Agile Environment and 5 years' experience as a System Administrator with recent hands-on development experience
  • Combined 5 years of experience with VMware, Hyper-V, SANs, and network elements (switches, routers, firewalls)
  • Experience with Windows Server OS, Unix, Azure Cloud and Active Directory
  • Experience with Microsoft Exchange
  • Design, implementation, and management experience in virtual environments
  • Experience in monitoring virtual environments, including physical servers, virtual servers, Windows and Linux, and SAN
  • Experience with networking architecture, including switches, routers, and firewalls
  • Ability to provide in-depth experience in troubleshooting IT systems
  • Experience working with teams of technical professionals
  • Administrator with recent hands-on development experience
  • Experience with Cloud Enabled and Cloud native solutions and DevSecOps
  • Technical build out of POCs (Proof of Concepts)
  • Advanced knowledge of distributed software systems, design patterns and architecture principles

Desired/Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree with IT, Software Engineering, Computer Science or other STEM related subject, either directly or indirectly
  • Minimum 10 years' experience as a software engineer with 5 years' experience as Infrastructure resource and working in an Agile Environment and 5 years' experience as a System Experience with Operation Technologies and supporting field (O&G onshore and offshore)
  • Experience decomposing application components and determining how to leverage various technologies found with modern cloud services
  • Experience with service-oriented architecture, web services, and Application Programming Interfaces
  • Experience taking disparate business problems and delivering the best technology solutions for large scale applications
  • Experience with project management
  • Experience with hyper-converged virtual deployments is preferred
