Responsibilities

What you'll be challenged to do:

The Fresno office is looking for an intern to help with a variety of projects encompassing several different aspects of civil engineering.  Intern will be responsible for assisting project engineers and project managers with design and administrative tasks.Ideally, the position would be for 40 hours per week during the summer months and could transition to a Part-Time schedule when school starts in the fall, if needed. 


  • Take direction from supervisors and other staff members. 

  • Prepare engineering calculations, cost estimates, and reports.

  • Prepare engineering exhibits and plan sheets.

  • Solve technical problems.

  • Will learn proficiency in operation of computer-aided drafting software.

  • Assignments of increasing difficulty will be submitted as proficiency is increased.

  • Understand and follow the company's standard CAD procedures for levels, line styles, etc., and standard drawing procedures for sheet layout.

  • Individual is flexible and may work with numerous project teams to help in project completion.

  • Maintain neat and orderly work area that will allow access to project information to other team members.

     

Qualifications

What you bring to our firm:


  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or civil engineering technology

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office 

  • Actively engages multiple perspectives when solving problems, seeks to learn from peers, and encourages reciprocal learning among team members.

What we prefer you bring to our firm:


  • CAD experience in either AutoCAD or Microstation or both.

  • Special interest in transportation engineering and design.

  • Local candidates preferred, no relocation assistance provided

  • Oral Communication - Speaks clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations; listens and gets clarification; responds well to questions.

  • Ethics - Treats people with respect; works with integrity and ethically.

  • Attendance/Punctuality - Is consistently at work and on time; ensures work responsibilities are covered when absent; arrives at meetings and appointments on time.

  • Professionalism - Approaches others in a tactful manner; reacts well under pressure; treats others with respect and consideration regardless of their status or position; accepts responsibility for own actions; follows through on commitments.

For individuals assigned and/or hired to work in California, Colorado, or NY City, TranSystems is required by law to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This compensation range is specific to the State of California and takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; internal peer equity; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At TranSystems, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $20 - $25 per hour.
