Job Description:

Provide senior-level planning and execution of strategic media/public relations programs that position UC Health positively in the news media. This position is responsible for managing the daily activities of external media relations, overseeing internal and vendor media relations staff, providing counsel for media interviews with administrators and faculty.B.A. or B.S. in Communications, marketing, or journalism required. Masters degree preferred.

6 - 10 Years equivalent experience.Job Functions:

Develop and implement strategic media relations/public relations plans that support UC Health initiatives and result in positive media coverage that enhance the image of and broadens awareness for the organization and its work. Manages the media outreach of the Academic Health Centers public information officers, together with the Director of Marketing for UC Physicians, in order to promote UC Health initiatives and campaigns where a strong media presence is important for success. Responsible during the week for handling the media phone coverage 24/7, and alternates the media phone on the weekends with the other members of the team. Editor in chief of quarterly UC Medical Center magazine/newsletter. Assists with media outreach and crisis communications for all UC Health properties, traveling as needed to each location. Build strong, positive working relationships with UC Health administrators, faculty, and staff that will lead to a long-term and sustainable infrastructure for strategic media relations to enhance the reputation of the organization.

Perform hands-on media relations/public relations work in collaboration with the Director of Marketing for UC Physicians, including but not limited to: implementing strategic plans, responding to direct media inquiries, researching facts and resources, identifying news sources, and proactively communicating with journalists across media outlets to advance the mission of UC Health in line with its mission and objectives. Create written public relations materials such as press releases, fact sheets, media policies and any other related materials that support UC Health's initiatives as necessary. Strengthen the newly developed internal media relations infrastructure/operations with the Academic Health Center to promote UC Health effectively while creating processes and systems for managing work flow, providing timely updates to the Vice President of External Affairs and Marketing, measuring success, and communicating that success to various constituents. Counsel UC Health administrators, faculty, and staff in a respectful and positive way on the role of media relations and develop processes and systems for managing both expectations and work to ensure positive outcomes and strong internal relationships. Manage crisis communications with the media for University Hospital UC Health. Perform related duties as needed which may include extended working hours during the week as well as weekends.Job Functions:
