Job Summary



Department Specific Responsibilities


  • Manages our team of research assistants.

  • Recruits, interviews, and hires new research assistants and maintain recruitment records.

  • Guides new hires through onboarding, including HR processing and project materials distribution.

  • Trains research assistants using online resources and in-person meetings.

  • Assigns new research assistants to experienced research assistant mentors and coach these pairings.

  • Ensures the schedule of observation opportunities is current and complete.

  • Ensures that research assistants are assigned to attend every available observation opportunity.

  • Ensures that research assistants complete and upload data forms after each observation.

  • Reviews submitted data forms for errors and follow up with research assistants to correct mistakes.

  • Assists research assistants who face unexpected challenges in the field.

  • Tracks observation completion rates and share research progress updates with the project team.

  • Schedules occasional meetings of research assistants and ensure attendance at those meetings.

  • Works with the project leadership team to improve research assistant recruitment, training, and field work.

  • Works closely with the Project Manager, who oversees the above tasks and communications with participating CSOs, and the Principal Investigators, who oversee the entire project.

  • Additional responsibilities may be assigned as the project develops.




Qualifications



EDUCATION



Required



  • High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED)


Preferred



  • Bachelor's degree

WORK EXPERIENCE



Preferred



  • College-level training in a social science discipline or related professional field is a plus

  • Familiarity with nonprofit organizations, especially organizations with members or active participants, is a plus

  • Experience managing employees or volunteers

SKILLS



Required



  • Well-organized and detail-oriented and have

  • Comfortable communicating regularly through email, phone, text/SMS, social media, and other internet platforms

  • Ability to effectively use standard office software especially spreadsheet applications (Excel, Google Sheets)

Professors Matthew Baggetta and Brad Fulton of the O'Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs at Indiana University, Bloomington seek applicants for a part-time Research Project Administrator for an exciting project studying civic organizations funded in part by AmeriCorps. Our project collects data at meetings, events, and activities held by CSOs in Bloomington, Indiana.



Research Project Description



What goes on inside civil society organizations (CSOs)the religious congregations, service organizations, arts groups, advocacy organizations, and hobby clubs that permeate communities? Our project uses an innovative technique known as systematic social observation to collect detailed data on what happens at meetings, events, and activities held by CSOs. Analyses of these data will improve understanding of how CSOs work and will help local leaders foster a lively, thriving community. In time, we will have upwards of 25 student research assistants attending convenings held by upwards of 60 CSOs.


Start date is negotiable, but no later than July 1, 2024. The project runs at least through August 2025.
