Responsibilities
The AGOL Developer will be responsible for designing and implementing innovative GIS solutions that address complex business challenges. This role involves collaborating with stakeholders to understand requirements, architecting scalable and efficient GIS systems, and guiding development teams in the implementation of GIS solutions. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in GIS technology, software architecture, and project management. The ideal candidate will be able to perform these duties satisfactorily.
Solution Design: Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business requirements and translate them into scalable and efficient GIS solutions
Architecture Development: Design end-to-end GIS architectures, including data models, application frameworks, integration patterns, and deployment strategies
Technology Evaluation: Evaluate GIS software, platforms, and technologies to identify the best-fit solutions for specific use cases and requirements
System Integration: Integrate GIS solutions with existing enterprise systems, data sources, and external APIs, ensuring seamless interoperability and data exchange
Performance Optimization: Optimize GIS solutions for performance, scalability, and reliability, considering factors such as data volume, user concurrency, and system resource utilization
Security and Compliance: Implement security best practices and compliance standards for GIS systems, including data encryption, access controls, and regulatory requirements
Project Planning: Develop project plans, resource estimates, and timelines for GIS solution implementation, and collaborate with project teams to ensure successful delivery
Technical Leadership: Provide technical leadership and guidance to development teams, ensuring adherence to architectural principles, coding standards, and best practices
Quality Assurance: Establish quality assurance processes and procedures for GIS solutions, including testing methodologies, test automation, and performance monitoring
Documentation: Prepare comprehensive technical documentation, including architecture diagrams, design specifications, and deployment guides, to facilitate system maintenance and knowledge transfer
Qualifications
Bachelor's or master’s degree in Geography, GIS, Computer Science, or a related field
Proven experience as a GIS Solutions Architect or in a similar role, with a strong background in GIS technology and software architecture
Expertise in GIS software and platforms, such as Esri ArcGIS Online, QGIS, or similar systems, including experience with spatial databases, web mapping APIs, and geospatial analysis tools
Demonstrated experience in designing and architecting complex GIS solutions, including proficiency in system integration, data modeling, and application design patterns
Strong programming skills in languages such as Python, JavaScript, or Java, with experience in developing GIS applications and web services
Knowledge of cloud computing platforms and services, such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP), and their relevance to GIS architecture
Familiarity with enterprise GIS architectures, including distributed systems, service-oriented architectures (SOA), and microservices architecture patterns
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to analyze complex technical challenges and propose innovative solutions
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders
Certifications and/or Licensing Requirements
Certification in GIS (e.g., Esri Technical Certification) and software architecture (e.g., TOGAF, AWS Certified Solutions Architect) is a plus.
