Job Description:

Essential Duties:


  • Plans and implements activities for designated community-based programs for Youth, Adult and Senior groups such as: computer classes, seniors support groups, summer recreational camps, robotics team.

  • Instructs fitness activities such as: cardio, cardio kickboxing, boot-camp, stretching, dancing to participants enrolled in our programs.

  • Demonstrates, coaches and leads a variety of activities, including but not limited to athletics (basketball, volleyball, baseball and soccer), dance, games, arts, and crafts.

  • Implements special projects and events such as National Night Out, Harvest Fest, Fitness Week, Dance Party, Walk-A-Thons and educational workshops.

  • Conducts weekly fitness in-services with the Recreation & Enrichment team.

  • Helps supervise a team of volunteers that implement the home-economics activities.

  • Provides guidance to and supports temporary summer staff and volunteers.

  • Contributes to the creation, planning and design of new and/or expanded activities to help meet organizational goals and outcomes focused on holistic wellness.

  • Distributes program information and collects participant information.

  • Conducts initial and progress assessments.

  • Maintains attendance reports, client management system, and various forms.

  • Maintains inventory of program supplies, games and fitness equipment.

  • Provides first aid and submits accident/incident reports as necessary.

  • Attends required staff meetings and trainings.

  • Works evenings and weekends as assigned.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Salary:

Hourly rate begins at $17.50. Mid range at $20.92. Actual starting rate will be commensurate with experience and education.

Education/Experience:

High school or general education diploma (GED) and 2 years program implementation experience in a community center or similar setting required. Two years successful experience working with children, youth, and adults preferred.

Language Ability:

Ability to read, write, and comprehend instructions, short correspondence. Fluent in English; Spanish bilingual preferred.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply understanding and carry out instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables. Ability to engage in critical thinking and problem solving in a fast-paced environment.

Certificates and Licenses:

As job assignment requires, obtains licenses/certifications related to specific program activities such as First Aid Certification, CPR Certification, Child Protection Training, Ropes Course Facilitator Certification, Coaching Certification, Fitness Certifications, and Cultural Sensitivity Training.

Computer Skills:

Demonstrates working knowledge of the Internet, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, and Excel applications. Will be required to become proficient in the use of MHM-specific software for client tracking and referrals. Ability to efficiently document in an electronic health record.

While performing the duties of this job, the team member is exposed to a community center environment having direct contact with program participants of all ages in indoor & outdoor settings during all seasons of the year. Position necessitates bending, stooping, twisting, turning, walking, running, jumping, climbing step stools, sitting and standing for periods of time. Must be able to lift and maneuver 25 pounds. Must be able to engage in physically challenging activities (i.e. sports and exercise activities) for a sustained period of time.

Position requires a limited amount of travel. Will work evenings and weekends as assigned.
