Job Overview: The candidate for the laboratory technician I position within the protein group is responsible for carrying out protein expression, purification and incorporation into liposomes and polymersomes. The laboratory technician I will collaboratively work with the Principal Scientist and other team members within the protein and membrane groups to complete project associated tasks.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Use established SOP to independently carry out protein expression and purification (under the review of the Scientist or Principal scientist) for downstream biochemical and biophysical analysis.
Prepare necessary raw materials needed for laboratory processes e.g., buffers for protein purification, solvents, media for fermentation, etc.
Perform scale up activities associated with protein and exosome production and QC.
Be accountable for project deliverables and communicate status and other related information to management and project team members.
Be focused on details and efficiency in the laboratory as well as having an interdisciplinary approach to the tasks at hand while exercising good laboratory practice.
Collaboratively work with team members within the Protein group and from other groups within the R&D division to perform and analyze additional experiments as necessary.
Participate in the general upkeep and maintenance of the laboratory facilities and equipment according to OSHA standards.
Requirements:
BS degree in Life Sciences, e.g., biochemistry or biophysics
Excellent analytical skills
Good communication and team working skills.
Good general IT skills, incl. knowledge of MS Office (SharePoint) and other standard software packages
Ability to work independently and proactively in a fast-paced and collaborative environment.
Self-motivated and able to handle multiple challenging targets with flexibility in adjusting priorities for project support.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, work short cycle times and flexible hours if required, and deliver results under pressure.
Ability to wear PPEs as needed.
Awareness of fire, safety, and chemical hazards.
Lifting/Carrying -lifting of up to 50 pounds.
Stand or sit for an extended period.
Ability to respond to alarms.
US work permit.
Additional Qualifications:
At least 1 year experience working in industrial bio-technology research laboratory performing protein expression and purification.
Knowledge and experience with protein expression systems and aseptic techniques
Experience with a wide range of analytical tools and techniques for use in the laboratory, incl. FPLC, HPLC, Stopped-Flow, DLS, microscopy, etc. is a plus.
