POSITION DESCRIPTION 

Director of Music 

Senior Minister, in cooperation with the Spiritual Life Committee and Music Subcommittee 

Appointment is part-time, salaried 

The Director of Music, in cooperation with the Spiritual Life Committee, plans, organizes and implements an inspiring Christian music program. 

SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: 

1. Bachelor's degree in music with extensive choral conducting experience. Preference 

given to applicants with a Masters or Doctorate. 

1. Demonstrated organizational skills. 
2. Ability to develop good rapport with individuals of varying ages. 
3. Maintain relationships with local universities and schools to recruit choral and 

instrumental students. 

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

1. Organize and direct the Chancel Choir. 
2. Coordinate the performances of the youth choirs with the Youth Choir Director. 3. Schedule the summer instrumental and vocal music. 
3. Schedule music and vocalists for special services (Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, etc.) 
4. Participate in planning worship with the minister and provide music leadership for services of the congregation. 
5. Organize a brass/percussion ensemble to perform for Reformation Sunday, Christmas Choral Sunday, Easter Choral Sunday, and Celebrations of Ministries Sunday. 
6. Recruit university students and community members to perform in a chamber 

orchestra for major works programmed throughout the year. 

1. Provide staff leadership to the Music Subcommittee and work with other areas and organizations within the church in the development of a total music ministry. 
2. Administer the business affairs of the music program and oversee music supplies, equipment, and instruments. 
3. Participate as possible in the general life and work of the church including being a resource to the Spiritual Life Committee, as needed.
