As a Value Stream Engineer, you will play a critical role in identifying and implementing process improvements to enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and increase overall productivity. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including production, engineering, and quality, to analyze value streams, identify bottlenecks, and develop strategies to streamline operations. As a Value Stream Engineer, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:


  • Analyze value streams and identify opportunities for process improvement, waste reduction, and increased productivity.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement lean manufacturing strategies, such as 5S, Kaizen, and Standard Work.

  • Conduct time studies and process mapping to identify bottlenecks and develop solutions to optimize workflow.

  • Implement visual management tools and metrics to monitor and track key performance indicators (KPIs) and drive continuous improvement.

  • Lead and facilitate improvement projects, ensuring timely completion and achievement of project goals.

  • Train and mentor team members on lean manufacturing principles and tools to foster a culture of continuous improvement.

  • Collaborate with suppliers and internal stakeholders to optimize supply chain processes and improve overall value stream performance.

  • Stay updated on industry trends and best practices in lean manufacturing and process improvement methodologies.

Your Skills and Expertise 

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) in engineering from an accredited institution

  • Three (3) years of experience in value stream engineering in a private, public, government or military environment

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:


  • Three (3) years of experience in manufacturing or production

  • Proven experience in value stream analysis and process improvement, preferably in a manufacturing environment

  • Proven experience in value stream analysis and process improvement, preferably in a manufacturing environment.

  • Proficiency in utilizing data analysis and visualization tools to identify trends, analyze performance data, and drive data-driven decisions.

  • Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills, with the ability to identify root causes and implement effective solutions.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.

  • Experience with project management methodologies and tools to plan, execute, and monitor improvement projects.

  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, quality control, and safety standards.

  • Professional certifications such as Lean Six Sigma (Green Belt, Black Belt) are a plus.

Travel: May include up to 10% domestic
