Position Summary:

The Pathway Advisor will support and coach students in all aspects of their assigned pathway. The Pathway Advisor will ensure that assigned students receive personalized career guidance and academic advising, and work on collaborative efforts with staff of the Academic Affairs Division in accordance with established goals and objectives of the academic deans and faculty in their assigned pathways. Pathway Advisors assist with course selection, enrollment, internship selection procedures for transfer institutions, and providing support for personal and academic needs as required. Pathway Advisors support other events designed to motivate students to enroll, transfer and graduate. They will also utilize the CRM, Student Planning, and other appropriate tools to keep record of student interactions and progress towards the student's goals.


Reporting and Supervisory Relationships:

This position reports to the Manager, Academic Advising


Essential Responsibilities:

1. Serve as a primary point of support and contact for assigned students.2. Provide financial aid and personal finance counseling to help assigned students achieve their educational and personal goals and offset the cost of college attendance.3. Provide academic advising and counseling information services to student participants through structured individual and group meetings.4. Provide professional support and assistance in college-wide activities related to student admissions, financial aid, academic advising, registration, orientation, graduation, and overall navigation through college.5. Help with the coordination of programming relative to the assigned pathway.6. Support and participate in both classroom and internship/externship of assigned pathway students in an effort to enhance their development and learning experiences.7. Monitor students' academic progress; maintain detailed records of all aspects of students' progress including academic, professional, personal, etc., that would aid, or impede their overall success, particularly around indicators of special populations (single parents, displaced homemakers, etc.).8. Assist in student outcomes research and institutional evaluation.9. Conduct appropriate referrals for students as necessary.10. Assist with all aspects of program review and student retention efforts such as surveys, focus groups, orientation sessions, parent workshops and intervention groups.11. Build and maintain positive working relationships with PSC faculty, administrators, and parents/guardians to assist program participants with academic advising, counseling, consultation, referral, and information services.




12. Performs other duties as assigned for the betterment of each program participant consistent with the role and required functions of this position.


Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

The employee typically works indoors in an environment protected from the weather. Moderate travel may be required. Physical activities include the ability to carry appropriate recruitment materials sometimes weighing up to 40 pounds.


Minimum Qualifications:

1. Bachelor's degree.2. Demonstrated sensitivity and experience with students from low-income, disadvantaged educational backgrounds.3. Demonstrated ability to assist students in a culturally diverse environment.4. Advising or counseling experience in a college setting.5. FAFSA knowledge and experience in financial aid and financial literacy.6. Working knowledge along with comfort level in assisting students with college and university admissions, transfer policies, and financial assistance processes.7. Proven commitment to target participant population.8. Ability to work in teams.9. Ability to maintain confidentiality.



Preferred Qualifications:

1. Experience working with guided pathways.


2. Experience working in a community college.


3. Working knowledge of Federal Financial Aid.


4. Outstanding programming skills designed at enhancing the quality of the academic and personal lives low-income, first-generation and disabled students.


5. Experience with Datatel colleague.


Anticipated Work Hours and Days:

Monday through Friday 8;00am - 4:30pm; one to two days per week 10:30am - 7pm.
