About Orbital Materials

Orbital Materials develops novel advanced materials (adsorbents and catalysts) and chemical processes for key applications within the energy transition.

At the heart of Orbital Materials' pioneering approach lies "LINUS," an AI foundation model tailored for materials science. LINUS serves as the backbone of the company's research laboratory in New Jersey, where it drives the development of a robust pipeline of materials and chemical technologies crucial for facilitating the energy transition. LINUS is used by chemists and chemical engineers in our lab in New Jersey to support and speed up their workflows as they are synthesizing and piloting new chemical processes.

We are a young company led by a team with depth of experience in AI (our CEO is a former lead for AI in materials at ex-Google/DeepMind) and industrial chemistry R&D (ex Global head of R&D at ZeoChem, founder of Mosaic Materials). Founded at the end of 2022, in the past 12 months, we have raised $21m to develop our first products.

About The Role

We are seeking a lead process engineer to own the conceptual design of gas separation processes. Your work will be primarily focused on using process engineering software, such as Aspen, to collaborate with our materials scientists and chemical engineers on piloting novel processes.

An exciting part of this role is trialing and providing feedback on new AI tools to accelerate process engineering. This might include more accurate and faster reactor models, automated capital cost retrieval and estimation, or new ways of doing computational fluid dynamics. An interest in helping provide specifications and feedback for our AI development work is a key asset.
