HPC Network Engineer

Responsibilities:

  • Design, deploy, and scale networks for large-scale, heterogeneous distributed research environments.
  • Collaborate closely with HPC Systems and other teams to ensure seamless scalability and performance optimization.
  • Manage projects from requirement gathering to implementation, providing detailed documentation and tracking updates.
  • Maintain and manage IP address assignments and configurations.
  • Utilize automation tools to enhance network efficiency.
  • Work with remote data centre teams to troubleshoot hardware, cabling, and optics issues.
  • Travel to global data centres as needed to oversee project completion.
  • Perform firmware upgrades on switches and routers to maintain network security and performance.

Skills:

  • Proficiency in layer 2 and layer 3 network protocols and best practices (e.g., OSPF, BGP, VXLAN).
  • Experience with switch vendors and operating systems such as Arista (EOS), Cisco (NX-OS), and SONiC-based switches.
  • Knowledge of computing and grid networks design, capacity planning, and project management.
  • Familiarity with packet decoding and analysis tools like tcpdump and Wireshark.
  • Understanding of public cloud networks (AWS, GCP, Azure).
  • Experience with configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Salt) is desirable.
  • Familiarity with Python, Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, and GitHub is a plus.
  • Understanding of fiber optics technology and cabling standards.
  • Proficiency with Unix/Linux command line utilities and networking stack.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to create and maintain technical documentation.
