CENTER FOR LAW AND EDUCATION IS HIRING!

The Center for Law and Education ("CLE") - ---a national non-profit resource, support, and advocacy organization committed to improving the quality of education for all students, with a focus on the rights of low-income students - seeks an education attorney for its Boston office. As a member of CLE's legal team, the attorney will work with other CLE staff to identify and target policies, practices, and other barriers that systemically deny equitable educational opportunities to students within protected population groups (race, national origin, ethnicity, language status, disability, sex/gender identity/sexual orientation, socioeconomic status) from receiving high-quality, content-rich curricula and instruction provided by qualified and culturally competent school staff. Responsibilities will include providing: targeted statewide advocacy on behalf of students from low-income families through litigation and administrative and legislative advocacy; school-based legal education and assistance to students, parents, advocates and educators in planning and implementing education reform strategies designed to improve educational outcomes and close achievement gaps; and legal and technical assistance and support to attorneys and advocates representing students from low-income families in education matters. Qualifications for the Position

1. Robust legal research, writing, and analytical skills;

2. Demonstrated commitment to addressing social justice concerns and familiarity with inequities in public education, in particular, barriers confronting marginalized students who are disproportionately students of color, multilingual learners, and students with disabilities;

3. Basic knowledge and understanding of Title I - affecting economically disadvantaged students -, special education law, and federal civil rights laws;

4. Strong communication skills;

5. Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.

Teaching or other experience working with students, multilingualism, education policy background, and prior legal experience, particularly as it pertains to education law, litigation, and administrative advocacy, are highly desirable.
