The Director of Laboratory is responsible for the administrative operation of the Laboratory; maintenance of all policies, procedures and quality control practices; management and supervision of the Laboratory technical and clerical staff; administration of department budget; and the maintenance of effective physician and interdepartmental relations.
Responsibilities
Develops and maintains written continuous QI plans; provides evidence of on-going program which conforms with Joint Commission standards and state regulations.
Maintains standards of the entire department which meet criteria for state licensure and Joint Commission standards. Appropriate action is taken to correct any deficiencies noted during these surveys.
Establishes departmental goals which are reasonable and obtainable. Progress towards accomplishment of goals is demonstrated. Prepares and maintains organizational structure for achieving goals and activities.
Ensures departmental policies and procedures are reviewed, revised and written as necessary on at least an annual basis.
Performs continuous Quality Improvement studies as assigned.
Assures timely, accurate and consistent completion of: employee evaluations, summary leave records, documentation on employee actions, discussions and disciplinary measures, orientation and employee in-service education.
Conducts staff meetings and maintains minutes of meetings. Responds and/or takes action on interoffice memorandums requesting action on behalf of the department director.
Responsible for maintaining effective control system which will include proficiency testing, control testing, monitoring of daily analysis, maintenance of equipment and all aspects of Quality Control.
Responsible for coordination of pathological services for the Lab, as requested by Medical Staff.
Plans all work steps to ensure success; considers time, supplies and support required from all other individuals and departments in setting up work plan and completing duties.
Responsible for staffing of the laboratory with personnel whose training and experience is sufficient to meet or exceed standards set by governmental and/or inspecting, accrediting licensing agencies.
Responsible for maintaining inventory of reagents, equipment and supplies necessary to operate the Lab with quality lab work.
Perform all duties of technical supervisor outlined in the Federal Regulations Title 42 Part 493, Subpart M (LIS/HISTO/SPEC PROC/PHLE; CHEM/SP CHEM; MICRO/SERO; UA/BB/LIS;HEM/COAG; ABG.
Formulates annual budget in a timely manner and periodically reviews the budget and justifies excesses of 1% or more over which the director has control.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Clinical Services Administrator.
Qualifications
Medical Technology Degree.
Required to meet all Qualifications under Subpart M of Federal Regulations Title 42 part 493 as Technical Supervisor.
5-9 years of Laboratory experience required. 2-3 years of management experience required.
