Title: Performance Engineer, Operations

Basic Function

  • The Performance Engineer, Operations will be the key owner of operational data, analytics and KPIs in the Operations & Maintenance (O&M) team.
  • The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing, documenting, improving, and maintaining the quality and availability of all KPIs, calculations and analytics that are needed in operating the renewable energy assets, including, technical performance and internal/external reporting.
  • The Performance Engineer, Operations will work closely with O&M, Asset Management, Engineering, Quality and O&M Service providers to ensure an efficient operation of the SBE renewable energy portfolio.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Be the go-to person and a subject matter expert in the O&M team on performance measurements, KPIs, the structure of data, calculations and analytics of utility-scale PV generators and energy storage systems.
  • Act as the primary interface with Development Performance Engineering on HOTO of energy models for operating projects.
  • Act as the primary interface with Performance Engineering teams from O&M Service providers on alignment of performance model. Review O&M service provider monthly and annual performance reports.
  • Maintain KPIs for various weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.
  • Align with counterparties (e.g. O&M service providers and PPA off-takers) on data aggregation, calculation and KPI definitions.
  • Conduct diagnostic data analysis of underperforming systems, including resources from O&M service provider as applicable. Work with O&M Field Ops, Fleet Quality on RCA, CAPA implementation.
  • Manage the documentation of new calculations implementation, change of calculations, historian backfill history, definitions of calculations and KPIs, database tag names system, and cross reference system.
  • Validate data and resolve data quality issues of new projects as part of the HOTO process.
  • Manage the new calculations and analytics implementation roadmap.
  • Work with engineering team and digital platform team on developing advanced solutions of diagnostic analytics, failure prediction analytics, and ML models for O&M optimization.
  • Support implementation of Digital Platform tools.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a quantitative discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in areas of Performance Engineering, Project Design Engineering, or Data Science/Analytics, for utility-scale solar projects (experience in California or Texas markets preferred).
  • In-depth domain knowledge in PV and BESS.
  • Experience with operation of SCADA and DAS of renewable energy projects.
  • Knowledge and experience of using Statistics, Data Analytics, and structured problem-solving methodologies.
  • Knowledge and experience of using Python or similar programming language.
  • Good understanding of historian data and methods of data aggregation of different time intervals.
  • Ability to read and understand electrical single-line and three-line diagrams.
  • Experience working with a CMMS platform (preferably for power generation facility).
  • Expertise in Quality Tools, MS Office Suite, MS Project, other project management tools, and documentation tools.
  • Experience with PVSyst modelling.
  • Experience with data processing and modeling tools.
  • Ownership mindset, Attention to detail, Willingness to dig into and completely resolve complex issues.
  • Self-motivated with a desire to learn and grow.
  • Ability to travel domestically - typically 25%.

Travel Requirements:

Location: Redwood City, CA preferred but not required. Open to remote work.

If remote, the position could require up to 20% domestic travel (once normal and safe travel requirements resume).

Base Pay- $130,000 - $140,000

Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, such as skill set, experience, certifications, specific work location, and other non-discriminatory factors permitted by law. Base pay may vary per location due to differences in the cost of living.

The total compensation package for this position may also include an annual discretionary bonus, full Health & Wellness Benefits package, generous Long Term Incentive plan designed with our partnership mentality in mind, and other applicable incentive perks as outlined in any formal offer made. The final compensation package will be discussed with the candidate during the final stages of the hiring process.
