About this Opportunity:

The Vice President of Engineering will have the responsibility to establish and implement best practices to improve cost, delivery, and quality. This role will interact with all Vantedge sites to provide direct leadership of the quoting function, guidance and support to site engineering and leadership teams regard value creation activities involving the engineering function.

Responsibilities:
  • Create a quoting (virtual) center of excellence with consistent standards and methodology designed to achieve accurate cost estimates.
  • Develop cost savings plan including insourcing outside operations, optimizing cycle times, man to machine ratios, automation and process efficiency.
  • Support and provide guidance as needed to various sites utilizing knowledge of large format machining, sheet metal, CNC turning and milling, Wire EDM, Laser Etch/Mark/Welding, Welding, Polishing, Finishing, Cleaning, Assembly, and Inspection.
  • Develop methods to improve machine uptime including predictive maintenance, real time monitoring, quick / reduced changeovers, etc.
  • Standardize the use of DFM tools where appropriate.
  • Provide analysis of equipment capacity and develop a strategy to ensure future demand coverage through efficient use of existing capacity and timely investment when needed.
  • Develop process to continuously monitor, update, and sustain capacity data including accurate routers in the ERP system (Visual).
  • Partner and build relationships with key suppliers and customers by collaborating on our top challenges providing technical expertise and problem-solving support while integrating their input where appropriate.
  • Assist in equipment purchase strategy by balancing the competing benefits of standardization, specialization, acquisition cost, advanced / automation features
  • Provide actionable insights into Vantedge opportunity to innovate.
  • Assess new business opportunities to assist in site selection with consideration to available resources, competitive advantages, technology / competency alignment.
  • Help guide the investment in critical skills by determining capability gaps.
  • Assist in the professional development of high potential engineers Vantedge.
  • Research, develop, and assist in implementation of new technologies.
  • Provide critical oversight on strategic projects.
  • The ability to gain support for multi-site initiatives.
  • Key staff member on Vantedge Operations leadership team.
  • Site Engineering leaders report dotted line to VP of Engineering, direct line to site Directors.

Requirements / Skills:
  • Engineering or bachelor's degree in a technical field. MBA preferred but not required.
  • 5+ years of program management: Strong project management skills and working across a global business.
  • 10+ years working in operations and manufacturing.
  • Experience in medical device industry, metals machining, new product introduction, managing engineering teams and equipment purchasing required.
  • Experience implementing lean manufacturing processes preferred.
  • Able to create and maintain enthusiasm for new and challenging goals. Serve as a role model by promoting new ideas and positive change by mindful servant leadership.
  • Strong personal and professional judgment, which are invaluable skills for a role that makes hiring decisions as well as in finding the best solution to manufacturing process issues.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
