A property & casualty insurance client has a full-time opening for an Underwriter. The role of the Underwriter is to assess property and casualty risks to determine appropriate costs, terms, and parameters to insure the risk, review and analyze risk characteristics on insurance applications and change requests, and assist Director of Underwriting in new business development. The Underwriter also utilizes underwriting guidelines, rules, standards, and levels of authority to accept, reject, or mitigate risk for applications and determine appropriate premiums, limits,
and coverages.
Duties:
Reviews insurance applications along with accident and claims history, exposures, and other factors to determine acceptable risk
Assist with Underwriting coverage for property and casualty, workers' compensation coverage, and student accident plans
Prepare reports and participate in meetings related to the renewal of Property/Casualty and Workers' Compensation Programs
Answers inquiries from prospects and/or members
Assists potential members with application process
Aid and assist Director of Underwriting to work with Risk Pooling Trust broker(s) and/or members on all regulatory and State compliance issues
Performs other related duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Risk Management, or related field preferred.
3+ years commercial property/casualty insurance underwriting experience or related experience required.
Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) status or equivalent certification preferred.
Must have current property/casualty insurance license/certificate.
Experience in a risk pooling, captive, or self-insurance program preferred.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software
