Job Description:

Position Responsibilities:


  • Direct the month-end closing process for the Griffin Wheel Division, including managing the workflow of the closing from the plants through to corporate entries.

  • Manage a team of 3 direct reports who are responsible for the preparation of journal entries, general ledger account analysis, variance analysis, and balance sheet account reconciliations.

  • Oversee the creation of monthly reports and supporting schedules for inclusion in Management's monthly operations package.

  • Identify, recommend, and implement improvements to existing processes and internal controls.

  • Travel to Griffin Wheel Plants to support Plant Controllers and attend inventory counts and audits.

  • Ensure compliance to Amsted Rail and Amsted Industries accounting practices.

  • Provide financial analysis as needed to support operations initiatives, capital expenditures, commercial activities, and forecasting.

  • Identify opportunities to control costs and reduce expenses.

  • Support special projects aimed at continuous improvement, or other strategic focus areas.

Position Requirements (Education, Experience and Qualifications)

  • B.S. Degree from an accredited university in Accounting.

  • 10 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.

  • Knowledge of automated financial and accounting reporting systems. Experience in SAP preferred.

  • Knowledge of US generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).

  • Proficiency in using business systems (Excel, PowerPoint). Experience using HANA in Excel is a plus.

  • Must be detail oriented and have strong organizational, problem solving, and analytical skills.
