DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS

The job:

Frontwave Arena is seeking a Director of Operations for our 7,500 capacity indoor entertainment and sports arena responsible for leading staff and processes for back-of-house operations to ensure Frontwave Arena operates optimally. As Director of Operations, you will lead all in-house facilities, conversions, housekeeping, and loading dock operations within the Frontwave Arena property and grounds while ensuring the venue is always event ready. This includes supervising staff, coordinating with other departments and contractors, working with clients and event organizers, ensuring compliance with regulations, and maintaining a safe and efficient environment. This role will be reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer.

What you will do:
• Lead all aspects of Arena Operations including day-to-day operations, conversions, housekeeping, and compliance with California OSHA, Life & Safety, and ADA regulations.
• Coordinates the Operations activities with other departments, such as Event Services, and event-related contractors to assure facility readiness and smooth operation of events.
• Responsible for coordinating event-related operations including event planning, conversion of events, set up and installation of event-related equipment, and day of event execution.
• Provide clear, concise, and timely communication of directives to other departments.
• Ensure that the Operations Department receives pertinent information for the most effective use of the facility and staffing.
• Investigate, analyze, and resolve operational challenges and complaints. Conduct weekly staff meetings to discuss procedures, challenges, and policy changes.
• Oversee maintenance of the physical facility and their systems, equipment, and vehicles.
• Implement and update facility rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
• Supervise personnel in Arena Operations. Develop program to train all employees on Fire/Life Safety, Emergency and OSHA Procedures.
• Ensure compliance with expense guidelines, company policy, sports league and artist protocols and governing codes.
• Assist in the preparation of operational plans to include the annual operating budget, event-specific budgets, capital planning, hiring & training of new staff, and operational policies and procedures for Frontwave Arena.
• Implement effective inventory management practices to guarantee staff have the appropriate equipment and supplies required to perform their duties efficiently.
• Manage outside vendors/contractors to ensure compliance with contracts and safety requirements.
• Work closely with the COO in the preparation and negotiation of Service Agreements. Reviews contracts for compliance with events and /or government specifications and suitability for occupancy.
• Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules, emergency procedures, safety, and Risk Management policies in compliance with all corporate and governmental regulations.
• Act as liaison to public utility, environmental, and energy agencies. Assist COO in implementation of any energy saving guidelines.
• Coordinate and oversee special projects, such as construction, remodeling, or expansion. Plan and direct outside vendor/contractor work to assure compliance with contracts and safety requirements.
• Serve as MOD (Manager on Duty) as required.
• Support Frontwave Arena's sustainability program.
• Other duties as assigned.

Operations Supervision and Management
• Manage subordinate managers/supervisors in any of the following departments: Changeover/Conversion, Housekeeping, Maintenance, Operations, Engineering, and Technical Services. Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units.
• Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Frontwave Arena's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training Operations employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance and contributing to reward discussions; disciplining employees in conjunction with Human Resources; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Qualifications:
• Seven or more years of experience in the field of facilities management, preferably in a complex and sophisticated deadline driven environment.
• A minimum of five (5) years progressive supervisory management experience in facilities management with direct responsibility supervising and leading staff across a wide range of operating functions in a changing environment.
• Prior experience opening a new sports and entertainment venue preferred.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, with an ability to interact effectively and professionally, diplomatically, and maturely with internal and external clients and peers at all levels within the organization and throughout the community.
• Highly organized with excellent project coordination, project management skills, and attention to detail to meet tight deadlines and work effectively in a high-pressure environment.
• Knowledge of and passion for professional arena sports and live entertainment.
• Highly responsive to emergencies in a fast paced, time sensitive environment with demonstrated confidence, decision-making, and multi-tasking abilities.
• Excellent leadership skills with the ability to lead, give clear, concise direction and provide constructive feedback within a multi-ethnic/multi-cultural environment.
• Proficiency in facilities management software, project management tools, and Microsoft Office suite.
• Knowledge of industry regulations, safety standards, and best practices for event management and venue operations.
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by the demands of the event schedule.
• Excellent organizational, planning, and interpersonal skills with ability to effectively coordinate multiple projects simultaneously while managing another.
• Must be able to walk/stand/sit for long periods of time.
• Ability to be flexible and adjust to situations as they occur.

Salary Range: Base compensation ranging from $90,000 to $110,000.
