Job Description:

To maintain and advance its position as a leading healthcare system, Yale New Haven Hospital System (YNHHS) must demonstrate superior outcomes, provide seamless delivery of care and maintain competitive costs structures. The Vice President, Patient Services - Smilow Cancer Hospital is responsible for proactively identifying these forces and trends, anticipation their impact on the organization and developing and managing the proper response for the service teams in his/her area of responsibility. The Vice President, Patient Services - Smilow is responsible for the strategic development, operational leadership, activities, clinical quality and financial results, directing all non-physician clinical services of the Smilow Cancer Hospital. This includes but is not limited to all inpatient and ambulatory areas, network care centers. Serves as point of contact for social work, pharmacy, nutrition and other supportive services. Responsible for the effective utilization of all financial, material, and human resources, ensuring appropriate patient flow management through the continuum of care resulting in a high level of patient satisfaction. The individual will also act as liaison between Smilow Cancer Hospital and the Y-NHH Division of Nursing/Patient Services., The individual in this position will help shape the entire Smilow Cancer Hospital enterprise and be charged with promoting an operation and culture that focuses on patient- and family -centered care and on enhancing a world class model for cancer care both operationally and clinically.

Responsibilities

  • 1. Service Excellence
  • 1.1 Partners with Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer to ensure that all patient care services are delivered in accordance with applicable standards and established by regulatory and accreditation agencies, (i.e., Connecticut Department of Public Health, JCAHO, HIPPA, etc.).
  • 2. Strategic Planning, Development, Vision & Strategy
  • 2.1 Partners with the Physician in Chief, Senior Vice President, CMO and other senior leadership to create, implement and manage the strategic direction and long-term plans for Smilow Cancer Hospital.
  • 3. Organizational Leadership
  • 3.1 Provides strategic leadership at an executive level for Smilow Cancer Hospital. Maintain a collaborative relationship with other service line leadership. Participate on an ongoing basis in the strategic planning process of the services lines. Bring a clinical perspective to the design and program development.
  • 4. Management
  • 4.1 Optimize clinical program results by maintaining internal and external customer service focus; continuously enhance value through performance improvement initiatives and facilitate the expeditious resolution of problems by exercising sound judgment.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

Master's degree required (Bachelors or Master's degree must be in nursing).

EXPERIENCE

Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in oncology nursing leadership in an NCI designated Cancer Center along with significant operational responsibility; strong focus on full spectrum of oncology services is strongly desired. Successful experience with large facility development projects. Executive leadership experience at a complex facility with leading edge patient care, customer service and research. Proven success in fundraising and capital campaigns. Experience creating and developing "world class" management teams. Demonstrated results and experience in transforming and growing an organization through strategic planning and effective implementation. Competitive health care marketplace experience.

LICENSURE

Registered Nurse Licensure in the state of CT or eligibility.

SPECIAL SKILLS

Strong financial management expertise accompanied by savvy regarding sound business dealings and the ability to "close the deal" and move forward. Strong leadership skills including demonstrated ability to collaboratively inspire and motivate individuals and groups also being decisive and taking action on critical issues .Effective not only at recruiting top talent from outside the organization but also at developing the full professional potential of individuals within. Excellent verbal and written communications skills. Demonstrated ability to be equally effective with both large and small audiences as well as on a one-on-one level and to a wide range of constituencies.
