Activities Assistant at PVHR LLC in National City, California

Job Description:

The Vitality Assistant supports whole-person wellness by encouraging participation in campus events and activites. This position assists with activities that enrich mind, body, and spirit. Communicates the Vitality philosophy and the benefits of participating to staff and residents both verbally and by example. Complies with federal, state, and local regulations. Incorporates Generations' Mission, Vision, and Values into their work and interactions with others.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:


  • Know, understand and demonstrate the Mission, Vision and Values of Generations,

  • Assist with all activity and wellness programs to address the physical, intellectual, social and spiritual needs of the residents. Includes assisting with special events as part of a comprehensive Vitality program for all residents of the community.

  • Focus on enhancing lives of staff members through Vitality moments and activities that include all aspects of wellness.

  • Assist the Vitality Coordinator in carrying out assigned action plans of the Vitality program.  Complete all assigned tasks accurately and on time.  Keep Vitality Coordinator well-informed regularly regarding any issues or concerns.

  • Assist in Vitality portion of Quality Enhancement audit preparation, completion, and correction as requested by Vitality Coordinator.

  • Accountable for organization, inventory, safety and cleanliness of the Vitality areas, including all equipment and supplies.

  • Develop and maintain an on-going relationship with the residents and staff alike through consistent and authentic communication.

  • Assist the Vitality Coordinator in maintaining the monthly Vitality budget. Demonstrate good stewardship in use of supplies and equipment.

  • Adjust work schedule as required to lead special events and activities, which will include some evenings and weekends.

  • Maintain professional personal appearance and adhere to dress code as outlined in the employee manual or as specified by the Executive Director.

  • Assist with creation of and distribution of Vitality calendars, schedules and newsletters. Coordinate with all staff with clear communication regarding Vitality activities.

  • Adhere to and support established HR policies and procedures. 

  • Performs all other duties as required.

Qualifications and Skills Required (Minimum qualifications):

Education and Experience


  • High School graduate or equivalent. 

  • Minimum 1-year related experience in activities and/or wellness with older adults, preferably in senior housing industry.  

  • Current CPR certification, or to be completed within 30 days of hire. 

Skills, knowledge and Abilities:


  • Ability to read, write, communicate and follow written and oral instructions in the       English language.

  • Ability to motivate others and encourage participation in meaningful activities.

  • Functions as a team member and demonstrates leadership abilities

  • Computer competency required including Microsoft Office

  • Must be able to work well and cooperate with others.

  • Ability to communicate with empathy and compassion

  • Ability to speak in public and articulate ideas clearly

  • Must be passionate about wellness and life enrichment for older adults

Physical Demands:  


  • Work day - 8 hours, more when necessary

Supervision: 


  • Needs to be self-directed and possess the ability to make decisions.  Works closely with all aspects of the business. Reports to the Executive Director.

Working Conditions: 

Works indoors well-lit and well-ventilated office and occasionally outdoors. Works with others in office and all departments directly.
