The Impact You’ll Make in this Role

As a DB2 LUW Senior Engineer, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. This position is part of the Core Infrastructure Delivery – Data Platform Delivery team. Under general direction by the Global DB Services Manager, they will participate in the daily management and administration of DB2 databases. Key responsibilities include responding to incidents and changes, monitoring DB2 activities and troubleshooting accordingly, and escalating critical issues to appropriate teams. This role requires technical and communication skills as well as a level of comfort working with diverse teams.

• Helping modernize support of existing enterprise environments


• Developing and supporting automation and tools to support database environments


• Implementing high availability and disaster recovery strategy for critical data and Cloud DBs


• Installing and maintaining database server environments


• Participating in Agile Scrum teams

• Ensuring Compliance Controls are maintained to protect data


• Assist in developing the future database vision for 3M.


• Creating support strategy for open source and cloud native DB technologies.


• Representing Database teams on cross-functional projects.


• Ensuring Compliance Controls are maintained to protect data.

• Work closely with the SAP Basis Staff on ERP related DB commitments


• Work as part of the Team to accomplish and oversee the daily support and planned project work


• Ensure required commitments like DR Compliance and Auditing are completed properly

Your Skills and Expertise 

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution


• Seven (7) years of IT professional experience in a private, public, government or military environment 


• Two (2) Years as Senior and/or Lead of a Technical Team


• Two (2) years experience working with DB Solutions in a Cloud Environment and SAP (ERP) systems 


• Five (5) years of experience supporting Database Technologies DB2 LUW on RHEL

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

• Demonstrated ability to work on projects in a technical environment, emphasis on Agile methodology


• Experience with Team work assignment and allocation


• Experience working in a large system environment and on customer-facing applications


• Experience with DB Solutions in a Cloud Environment (AWS Preferred)


• Strong analytical and interpretation of data analysis skills


• Documentation and process flows


• Excellent written and verbal communication skills


• Ability and Experience working in an Agile environment and SCRUM Projects using JIRA


• Experience working with Databases supporting SAP systems preferred


• Advanced experience with DB Solutions on Amazon AWS (Preferred) and/or Microsoft Azure solutions


• Experience supporting Mainframe DB2 on IBM zOS.


• Cross-functional IT expertise (applications, information security, networking)


• Familiarity with encryption and data protection tools


• 3rd party backup utilities, i.e., Commvault


• ETL or other data extraction/manipulation


• Familiarity with compliance/security standards incl. PCI DSS, SOC-1&2, ISO 27001, HIPAA, ITAR, CJIS & FDA

Work location:  Work Your Way Eligible (Employee choice to work remote, on site, or hybrid)

Travel: May include up to 10% domestic
