Core Responsibilities

• Implements the policies of Occupational Safety and Health Services programs in the daily operations of the Medical Department.

• Communicates staff changes, program suggestions, and problems to the Providers and the Occupational Health Charge Nurse.

• Maintains appropriate logs, statistical summaries, medical records, and other data required by Occupational Safety and Health Services and by law for a complete record of plant or Corporate Medical Department Activities.

• Obtains and maintains necessary equipment and supplies for the Medical Department, and ensures that proper standards of cleanliness and hygiene are maintained.

• Provides first aid care, treatments, follow-up, and medications for employee illness and injuries as authorized by the Provider and/or Occupational Safety and Health Services policies, procedures, and standing orders.

• Performs or requests biologic and physical testing of employees as required, such as spirometry, audiometry, blood lead, etc.

• Arranges for the appropriate transportation of ill or injured employees to the hospital, clinic, physician's office, or home.

• Administers immunizations as directed by the plant physician.

• Ensures that a complete and confidential medical record is maintained on each employee, including appropriate and accurate health care entries.

• Consults with the Provider, Nursing Staff, and Safety Personnel regarding occupational injuries and illnesses, possible communicable disease trends, or plant physical or chemical hazards as they may affect employee health and safety; and personal health care providers regarding an employee's health status or needs with the employee's written approval.

• Counsels and teaches employees about matters of physical and mental health and safety individually through education programs.

• Maintains a current information and referral file of community services and health care providers.

• Plans, coordinates, and when necessary, conducts health and safety education, and medical surveillance and examination programs as required and approved by Occupational Safety and Health Services.

• Provides suggestions and guidance to the Provider and Occupational Safety and Health Services to help in planning and improvement of occupational health programs.

• Maintains continued knowledge and professional growth in occupational health nursing.

• Accepts administrative/professional supervision from the Provider and Occupational Health Charge Nurse.

• Coordinates and cooperates with the Prvider and other plant Staff Nurses in carrying out the administrative, treatment, examinations, and testing and maintenance duties of the plant Medical Department.

• Works under the authority of the Nurse Practice Act of the jurisdiction in which the Medical Department is located; Occupational Safety and Health Service policies, procedures, and Medical Directives; and current standards of nursing practice.

• Other duties as assigned.





Requirements:

Qualifications

• Diploma or certificate of an accredited program of nursing as approved by the state

• License: valid, unrestricted license in Washington state as a licensed to practice nursing

• A minimum three-years experience as a RN in a related primary care or ambulatory care setting; government healthcare environment preferred.

• A minimum one-year experience as a RN with occupational health experience.

• Preferred certification in occupational health nursing (COHN) and case management.

• Current certification in Basic Life Support - CPR

• Proficiency in written and spoken English

• Strong computer skills, including EMR experience

• Energetic and optimistic demeanor


This job is CONTINGENT upon contract award, client approval, completion of a favorable background investigation, and the ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust / High Risk clearance.
