Job Description:

Department

Provost Globus Professional Services

About the Department

Globus (www.globus.org) is a sustainable, non-profit entity within The University of Chicago delivering solutions to the research community worldwide. Globus provides critical services that support scientific research for governmental, academic, and commercial organizations in a wide range of disciplines including life sciences, physics, and astronomy. We develop, operate, and sell commercial-quality SaaS and PaaS used by hundreds of thousands of researchers to address their large-and growing-data management challenges.

Job Summary

As a Professional Services Engineer, you will help researchers achieve their research goals by integrating Globus SaaS/PaaS data and compute management services with their research applications. Organizations that adopt Globus include universities, national laboratories, federal research agencies and commercial companies of all shapes and sizes, and no single approach to data management works for all. Your knowledge of software development, high-performance computing, storage, and data architecture, combined with strong communication skills and analytical abilities, will help you demonstrate to customers how Globus services can improve and help sustain applications in diverse research disciplines.

We are curious problem solvers who love to understand the needs of current and prospective researchers, and work closely with them from initial awareness through deployment of Globus-enabled research applications. Our efforts are focused on helping customers extract maximum value from the Globus platform and have a meaningful impact on their research agenda. Using your relationship-building skills, you will provide exemplary customer service, anticipating how decisions are made, persistently exploring and uncovering the research IT needs of our customers, and understanding how Globus services can best support their mission. You will use your industry and product expertise to consult with customers, and identify how Globus will improve their research applications and ultimately support breakthrough discoveries.

Do you enjoy developing demonstrations, 'whiteboarding' solutions, and storytelling as a means to make products resonate with prospective customers? Are you always eager to hack some Python or Javascript that highlights how Globus might solve a customer's problem? Are you equally at home presenting a high-level solution architecture and doing a code walkthrough with a customer's software engineer? As a Globus solutions engineer you will have ample opportunity to showcase these and many other skills in a collaborative, mission-driven environment at the University of Chicago.

You will succeed in this role if you: treat it as your craft and are serious about constantly improving it; love technology, and are prepared to go as broad as possible and as deep as necessary to serve the customer; relish being challenged by customers; and possess and demonstrate conviction regarding the value of Globus to researchers.
