JOBTITLE: ALSA ENGAGEMENT AIDE/CNA (The Palm Program)
REPORTS TO: ALSA DIRECTOR

General Description:
Provides support, direction, engagement, and care to participants in The Palm program. Recognizing the elderly we serve as unique people, requiring individual alternatives to maintain full lives in their later years. Provide medical, spiritual, and emotional care, including quality, dignity, compassion, and confidentiality.
Essential Job Functions:
Communicates with residents, families, and staff in a sensitive, professional, and therapeutic manner.Provides escorts to participants to/from program and during the day as program locations vary.Actively assists during engagement programs. Provides cueing, direction, and hands on guidance during engagement activities to maximize success.Observes and communicates changes in the resident condition to the RN responsible for the care of the client.Partners with the Memory Care Program Director to assess, develop, and implement engaging programs for residents.Follow the directions provided by the Memory Care Program Director regarding the day-to-day operation and needs of the day program.Assists in the residents activities of daily living needed during the program. This includes assisting with meals and nourishment, transferring using proper body mechanics and appropriate assistive devices, ambulation, and toileting.Provides one-on-one engagement opportunities to residents unable to participate in the program.Documents care and observation on appropriate forms.Provide for the safety and security needs of residents.Maintains established department policies, procedures and objectives, quality assessment and improvement programs, and safety, environmental and infection control standards.Attends meetings as required.Participates in education programs and in-service meetings.Understands and follows Universal Precautions as it pertains to potential exposure to all body fluids. Utilizes infection control techniques.Reports all unsafe conditions to appropriate supervision, including change in resident condition, broken or malfunctioning equipment or anything that could be a potential threat or danger to a resident. Practices good safety awareness.Knowledgeable of Residents Rights and community. Abuse Policies and Procedures.Performs any other duties and responsibilities that may become necessary or as directed by the Supervisor.

All Apartments and communal areas in Elim Park Place.
Entry Level Qualifications:
Current State of Connecticut CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) certificate/or HHA designation; CPR certified preferred. Demonstrates a desire and ability to be involved in social engagement with residents Specific memory care experience preferred
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged, extensive, or considerable standing/walking. Lift, positions, pushes, transfers resident's maximum 50 lbs. Manual dexterity and mobility. Intermittent exertion when performing treatments. Considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching. Ability to adjust vision to bring objects to focus.

Key Accountabilities (with or without reasonable accommodation):
Demonstrates the ability to provide personal hygiene for residents by bathing, oral hygiene, denture care, hair and nail care, skin care, incontinent care, dressing and undressing. Demonstrate ability to provide nourishment by preparing meals, providing assistance in the resident dining room, and serving nourishment. Demonstrates ability to provide incontinent care to residents by application and disposal of diapers, use of bed pans and urinals, toileting resident with or without assistance and perri care. Demonstrates safe transfer with wheelchair, walkers, and other ambulation devices. Demonstrates ability to recognize changes in residents condition and notify the nurse. Demonstrates an understanding of Alzheimers and other forms of dementia, including ways to communicate and engage.
