Position Summary

The Primary Care Physician diagnoses and treats diseases and injuries of human internal organ systems and delivers preventive and therapeutic treatment of primary care needs, including chronic disease management, of patients through routine physical examination testing and non- invasive treatment.

  • Fayetteville VA Medical Center: 2300 Ramsey Street Fayetteville, NC 28301
  • Full Time
  • This is a 52-week position with opportunity to extend or be converted to permanent.
  • If not local to the area, we can help with covering travel expenses.


Core Responsibilities

  • Patient Care: Actively diagnoses and treats our veterans.
  • Examines patient for symptoms of organic or congenital disorders and determines nature and extent of injury or disorder, performs comprehensive physical examination, referring to diagnostic mages and tests, and using medical instruments and equipment and documents all medical information into the patient's electronic medical record utilizing the VA's VISTA/CPRS electronic patient record system. Maintains confidentiality of veterans' data and information.
  • Develops and implements patient management plans and assists in provision of continuity of care.
  • Orders and performs diagnostic tests, such as x-ray, electrocardiogram, laboratory tests, etc. and interprets test results for deviations from normal and provides patient notification and follow up care.
  • Prescribes medication and recommends dietary and activity programs as indicated by diagnosis.
  • Refers patient to the VA medical specialist when indicated.
  • Counsels patients on the use of prescription medications, educates patients, assesses mental health issues, and provides routine health maintenance.
  • Evaluates patients' records from medical providers outside the VA and works with these patients utilizing rules set forth by the VA for co-managed care.
  • Completes any and all clinical reminders due at the time of each patient visit.
  • Completes the documentation of the medical record within twenty-four 24 hours of a patient encounter.
  • Solicits medical management consult or input when appropriate.
  • Will comply with all VA guidelines in regard to appropriate and timely response to all patient request, alerts and notifications, consults, orders, lab results and diagnostic studies.
  • Complies with the VA formulary process and consult protocols.
  • Serves as collaborative physician to mid-levels where appropriate and needed.
  • Complies with all VA guidelines in regard to appropriate and timely clinical documentation, including the completion of all encounters by close of business.
  • Addresses the clinical needs of all walk-in/triage/urgent care patients.
  • Agrees to cross cover other providers, including alerts and notifications.
  • Complies with all VA and company training requirements.
Requirements:

Qualifications

  • Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada
  • Completion of an accredited residency program in family medicine, or internal medicine.
  • 5 years of chronic disease management experience, after residency training
  • Current, active, full and unrestricted license or registration as a physician in ANY state.
  • Board-certified in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, or Preventive Medicine
  • Must comply with and maintain all requirements for a valid, unrestricted license in the state of desired employment, or in any U.S. state or territory, depending on VA contractual requirements.
  • Current certification in Basic Life Support, must be renewed periodically as specified by the AHA, and in ACLS if specified by individual VAMC contract.
  • Current, unrestricted Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration
  • Annual PPD test
  • Must be compliant with federal, state, local government or contract specific vaccine mandates and/or requirements.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English
  • Excellent computer skills



Valor Healthcare operates more than 50 Veteran Affairs Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs) in the United States as a contractor for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). Valor provides a full range of medical services to veterans through the operations of CBOCs. Our comprehensive set of services includes primary care, diagnostics, laboratory, telehealth, behavioral health, and more. In addition, we are always looking at other government contracts where this assignment comes into play as a contract position working directly in VA federal facility.


This job is CONTINGENT upon contract award, client approval, completion of a favorable background investigation, and the ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust / High Risk clearance.
