The Department of Psychiatry and Health Behavior, Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University in Augusta, Georgia is actively seeking a full-time faculty member at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor to serve as a board certified/board eligible Internal Medicine Provider.


The position will provide clinical care for patients with comprehensive medical services/care in an inpatient medical facility at East Central Regional Hospital through the Augusta University and Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities partnership contract. Clinical care would include but is not limited to the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of disorders, consultations, acute care, ordering and interpreting lab results, developing treatment plans, and patient/family education. The position will maintain and ensure that relevant patient records are properly updated, and shared weekday. This position directs nurses, aides, and others in the care and treatment of patients.


This position is not considered to be on tenure track.



Responsibilities


Under general supervision, provides comprehensive medical services by examining patients, diagnosing conditions and providing treatments. Directs nurses, aides and others in the care and treatment of patients.



Clinical:


Refers patients to medical specialists or other practitioners when necessary


Advises patients on health care including health promotion, disease, illness and accident prevention


Examines patients and take their histories, order laboratory tests, X-rays and other diagnostic procedures and consult with other medical practitioners to evaluate patients' physical and mental health


Prescribes or administers treatment, therapy, medication, vaccination, and other specialized medical care to treat or prevent illness, disease, or injury


Provides emergency medical care



Supervision:



Supervises two medical nurse practitioners


Supervises medical students on rotation and occasionally residents



Care Team:



Coordinates work with nurses, social workers, rehabilitation therapists, pharmacists, psychologists, and other health care providers


Directs and coordinates activities of nurses, students, assistants, specialists, therapists, and other medical staff


Participation in various committees and involvement in performance improvement projects


Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.









Required Qualifications


MD, MBBS, or DO


Board Certified or Board-eligible



Assistant Professor- Early level career as a faculty member with appropriate post graduate training.



Associate Professor- Mid level career faculty member with at least five years at rank of Assistant Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.


Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:


- Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)'s requirements for institutional accreditation;


- Evidence of ability as a teacher;


- Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;


- Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,


- Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.

This position is fiscal year based and works year-round.


The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0 and considered full-time.



Assistant Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.



Associate Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
