Job Summary


The Tennessee College of Applied Technology Knoxville is accepting applications for a full-time Associate Instructor Substitute position at the main campus. This position will work 37.5 hours per week and 7.5 hours daily, Monday through Friday.



Job Duties


Substitute Instructor: * Instruction: Facilitate the classroom instructional process: evaluate and monitor student progress; assign grades; provide academic assistance to students; maintain attendance and grade records; counsel and advise students on career goals; work to retain students. * Professional Growth: Remain current within instructional field and technologies; acquire, maintain, and apply knowledge of current instructional methodologies and materials; attend scheduled college and division professional development and in-service activities; support related professional organizations; participate in the annual faculty evaluation process. * Service to Students: Comply with FERPA laws; participate in recruitment and support student activities, including SkillsUSA, graduation, and NTHS. * Service to the College and Community: Participate in accreditation, assessment, and performance processes; attend convocation and commencement exercises and participate in mandatory college programs; develop and maintain positive and cooperative relationships with colleagues; assist with advisory meetings. * Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor and/or administration, on and off campus. - (Essential)


Facilities/Construction Projects/Maintenance: * Construction Projects: Support the Coordinator of Construction Projects and assist with new construction and remodeling projects. * Facilities and Maintenance: Perform repairs on buildings, mechanical systems, and equipment, inspect facilities, identify issues needing attention, and provide support for events by setting up equipment and facilities. * Operate machinery and tools for repairs, renovations, and installations. * Assist with inventory and adding items to GovDeals. * Maintain work orders and prioritize maintenance tasks - (Essential)



Minimum Qualifications



  • A technical certificate or diploma related to industrial trades and facilities operations, such as HVAC/R, electrical systems, plumbing, general building maintenance, or other construction trades.

  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent.

  • Minimum of three (3) years of current full-time work experience in a related field.




Preferred Qualifications



  • Teaching experience in technical education.

  • Knowledge and work experience in multiple industries.



Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities



  • High-level skills in oral and written communications; interpersonal skills consistent with interfacing with diverse students, peers, administration, and business and industry leaders in establishing and maintaining effective work relationships; computer skills with Microsoft products.

  • Must have computer skills and the ability to utilize Microsoft Office programs.

  • Must have the ability to multitask and good organization and planning skills.

  • Knowledge of Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) policies and procedures. 

  • A passionate belief in the power of education and the desire to help students achieve their academic, professional, and personal goals.

  • Flexibility to shift between instruction and facilities duties as needed.




SALARY: Commensurate with qualifications, experience, and education and in accordance with the guidelines established by the Tennessee Board of Regents of $47,727 - $57,273.
