Responsibilities

What you'll be challenged to do:

TranSystems is looking for a Movable Structures Mechanical Engineer to work with our staff of registered Professional Engineers for design and inspection of movable bridges and other heavy movable structures, plans preparation, and engineering services during construction. The design tasks will be completed using AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications, AASHTO LRFD Movable Highway Bridge Design Specifications, AASHTO Standard Specifications for Highway Bridges, and State Design guidelines. For this position you MUST have experience in new movable bridge design, movable bridge rehabilitation, and/or inspection of movable bridges

General Duties & Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.


  • Movable bridge design, contract plans preparation and specifications requiring quality presentation, thoroughness and follow-through, and efficient conformance to budgets and schedules

  • Developing design options

  • Maintaining organized design calculation and project data

  • Performing mechanical power and load analysis

  • Calculations of quantities and development of cost estimates

  • Take part in movable bridge inspection assignments as an inspection team member and prepare movable bridge inspection reports documenting inspection findings.

  • Support for movable bridge projects in construction.

  • Review shop drawing submittals. Organize submittals and address questions from contractors during the construction phases of movable bridges.

  • Witness testing of machinery and mechanical equipment in the shop prior to delivery at the bridge site.



Qualifications

What you bring to our firm:


  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering

  • At least 5 years of movable bridge and structure experience

  • Experience with Microsoft Windows, Office Suite, CAD

  • Actively engages multiple perspectives when solving problems, seeks to learn from peers, and encourages reciprocal learning among team members.

  • Must have experience in new movable bridge design, movable bridge rehabilitation, and/or inspection of movable bridges

What we’d prefer for you to bring to our firm:


  • EIT or EI license or ability to obtain EI within one year

  • Professional Engineer license or ability to obtain within one year

  • Experience with Bentley MicroStation and/or AutoCAD

  • Experience with common commercial design software.

  • Experience with movable bridges


  • Four years of engineer experience with at least years of experience in movable bridges.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, however, construction and field assignments can be severe (e.g. Airport noise, inside factories, construction equipment, etc).

  • The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, talk or hear, and drive a car. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include ability to adjust focus.

For individuals assigned and/or hired to work in California, Colorado, or NY City, TranSystems is required by law to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This compensation range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; internal peer equity; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At TranSystems, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $70,000-$120,000.
