Job Summary



The IUSCCC is seeking a part-time, energetic Exercise Physiologist at the Multidisciplinary Oncology Vitality and Exercise (MOVE) program at the IU Health Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center. As an Exercise Physiologist, your primary responsibilities are providing exercise oversight to patients with cancer. You play a crucial role in guiding these patients, both in person and virtually, to maintain physical fitness as they navigate their cancer treatment journey, making a real difference in their lives.


Department-Specific Responsibilities


  • Contacts and schedules referred patients for fitness assessments.

  • Develops individualized exercise prescriptions for cancer patients.

  • Implements exercise prescriptions during exercise sessions in various settings (in-person, virtual, small group, and group fitness classes).

  • Reviews medical history, medications, and cancer treatment course to provide appropriate exercise selection and prescription.

  • Demonstrates and trains patients on appropriate exercise techniques.

  • Coordinates and performs fitness/medical testing to determine physical condition of potential new employees and to identify health issues that might impact performance.

  • Work with patients or clients to develop customized fitness, nutrition, and exercise programs.

  • Regularly evaluates overall health and cardiovascular functioning of patient.

  • Assists physicians with patient education by personally reviewing results with clients and making exercise and nutrition recommendations with emphasis on disease prevention and healthy habits.

  • Schedules and organizes various company and community screenings including spirometry, prostate and fitness screenings.

  • Assists with maintaining medical records of clinic patients, arranges ancillary testing, obtains test results, and ensures diagnostic testing is available to the appropriate physician and cardiac rehab.




Qualifications



EDUCATION



Required



  • Master's degree in exercise science or related field and 1 year of experience in exercise testing OR

  • Bachelor's degree in exercise science and 3 years of experience in exercise testing

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES



Preferred



  • ACSM American College of Sports Medicine upon date of hire

  • ASEP American Society of Exercise Physiologists upon date of hire

SKILLS



Required



  • Proficient communication skills




Working Conditions / Demands



This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
