The Radiology Technical Assistant works as a fundamental part of the Radiology healthcare team. Works under the direct supervision of a Radiologic Technologists and Radiologists. The Technical assistant is responsible for assisting the technologists as instructed during routine procedures (i.e. such as lifting, transporting, and directing patients in and out of the Radiology suite). Assists RSR's with scheduling Imaging exams and answering phone calls. Technical assistant reports directly to the supervisors, technical manager or operations manager.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Works with the supervisor and technologists to assist in efficient daily operations and patient workflow
Provides safe and compassionate care to patients of all ages
Follows proper Patient Identification Process
Follows Hospital and Departmental Policies including HIPAA and Hand Hygiene
Appropriately assists patients identified as a falls risk
Exercises sound independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative under pressure and in a variety of situations
Ability to locate emergency equipment, code carts and understands importance of calling the Code Team vs. the Rapid Response Team
Monitors and replenishes the department's stock and linen supplies
Prepares and cleans the equipment and room before/after each patient to maintain a clean and safe work environment
Assists technologists with patient positioning, moving and lifting during exams in the department and during portable exams in the ER, ICU's and inpatient rooms
Expedites patient transport between departments when necessary
Maintains professional behavior and communications within the department and throughout the hospital
Achieves positive relationships with patients, families, visitors and other healthcare providers and contributes to a favorable public image of the radiology dept and hospital
Ability to utilize EPIC, phone and paging systems to assist at the front desk
Performs all other duties as assigned
SKILLS & COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
• Demonstrates understanding of Universal precautions, aseptic technique, hand hygiene and maintains cleanliness of exam rooms and equipment
• Provides safe patient care
• Expedites patient transfer to and from the ER and Radiology
• Adheres to radiation safety principles
• Ability to use Epic, telephone and paging systems
• Knowledge of medical terminology and radiology procedures
• Interpersonal skills allowing effective communication with patients who may be under physical and/or emotional stress.
• Communicates in a professional, courteous, clear and concise manner.
• Adheres to safety standards, established policies, procedures and clinical practice guidelines related to Radiology operations.
• Physically capable of performing all duties related to this position
Qualifications
Preferred: 1 year of previous health care experience & CPR
Required: HS Diploma or GED
