Job Description:




Budget Title: Instructional Support Associate (SL-2)




Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience




The Physical Security Technologies Coordinator serves as a key member of the Security, Infrastructure and Support team, responsible for ensuring the safety and security of the campus facilities, students, faculty, and staff via physical security technology implementations. This position combines aspects of a physical security technician and a physical security analyst role, encompassing a wide range of duties related to physical security systems, assessments, incident response, and construction project leadership.




This position will support day-to-day operations associated with physical security technologies, including routine maintenance and troubleshooting--either by resolving issues directly or by engaging internal partners and vendors as appropriate. The Physical Security Coordinator will work closely with the NYS University Police Department, Physical Facilities, Residential Life and other campus entities to provision physical security controls and systems for all new construction/renovation projects and life-safety technology-based solutions.




This position reports to the Assistant Director of Security, Infrastructure and Support (ITS).




In addition, the Physical Security Coordinator will have the following responsibilities:





  • Work in conjunction with the Security Infrastructure and Support group and other campus entities to assist with implementation and ongoing operation of the Genetec Access Control and Video Monitoring System.

  • Conduct regular inspections and testing of security equipment to ensure proper function and identify any issues or vulnerabilities, including correction of issues as needed.

  • Administer, configure, and maintain the University's physical security systems, primarily focused on door access control, intrusion detection and alarm systems. The coordinator may be required to work with other systems such as video surveillance.

  • Conduct routine maintenance as needed.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to develop and implement effective security measures based on risk assessment findings.

  • Work with leadership, law enforcement agencies, and other relevant stakeholders to assist with the response to security incidents or crises.

  • Complete projects involving security systems, hardware, building systems and technology as assigned.

  • Ensure that status reports are regularly submitted to the department and that targeted completion dates are met. Oversee physical security technology implementations in new construction and renovation projects.

  • Provide technical guidance for physical security related projects and technologies including but not limited to; access control systems, intrusion detection systems and unification of physical security technologies. Work on the rollout of new systems and remediation of existing systems while coordinating with project managers, physical security team members, system administrators and database engineers.






Requirements:

  • Associates degree in a technical field.

  • At least three years of experience in the design, installation and troubleshooting of access control software systems, including activities such as the configuration of access control parameters, access levels, event to action mapping and access-control hardware within the system.

  • Three years of experience in the specification, configuration and maintenance of access control equipment, including activities such as the design, configuration and troubleshooting of access control and intrusion/alarm head-ends.

  • Proficiency in leading physical security technology related projects, including coordinating with contractors, overseeing system installations and ensuring projects are completed within defined timelines and budgets. Ability to develop project documentation when necessary, such as status reports and change orders.

  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting building plans and schematics.

  • Ability to handle sensitive and/or confidential material and information with suitable discretion.

  • Sound writing, documentation, and communication skills.

  • Interpersonal skills sufficient to work with both technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization. Ability to elicit and communicate technical and non-technical information in a clear and concise manner.

  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Demonstrated problem-solving skills. Ability to learn effectively and meet deadlines.

  • Work well under pressure and be able to work collegially and effectively in a team environment.




Preferred:





  • Certifications relevant to Physical Security systems.

  • Experience in the installation and configuration of the Genetec Synergis Access Control system.

  • Experience in the specification, configuration and maintenance of Mercury Security based access control equipment.

  • Experience with additional physical security technologies, such as video surveillance systems, intrusion detection systems, alarm systems, and other physical security technologies commonly used in higher education institutions.

  • Knowledge of Higher Education Environment: Understanding of the unique security challenges and considerations within a higher education setting, including campus facilities, student populations, and academic environments.

  • Experience with Information Security and Risk Management, Telecommunications and/or Network Security.

  • Knowledge of the methods and practices of security/life safety in a large and diverse environment.

  • Experience in evaluating, selecting, and implementing emerging security technologies, including biometrics, analytics, and artificial intelligence, to enhance campus security measures.

  • Prior experience working with access control and/or digital surveillance systems as well as intrusion and mass-notification systems.
