The Office of the Executive Vice President for Finance and Administration is responsible for most business functions of the university. We develop and deliver financial expertise campus-wide, using best business practices, strong governance, timeliness, and accuracy. Our key initiatives focus on student affordability and access.


This role will be embedded within the Office of the Vice President for International Affairs (OVPIA) (IU Global).


The Vice President for International Affairs and the teams of staff in OVPIA offices are the stewards of international activity across all campuses of Indiana University. We provide strategic leadership and advocacy for all international programs and projects and coordinate the resources necessary to sustain their growth. Our goal is to enable as many students, faculty, and staff as possible to pursue international and intercultural knowledge and experiences and to become engaged global citizens.

Job Summary



Department-Specific Responsibilities


  • Review, approve and manage a proportionally high volume of foreign supplier/foreign currency purchase orders (POs) and international travel/international credit card transaction expense reports.

  • Formulate and manage business practices with Indiana University (IU) Bursar and Financial Aid to process and track student fees and scholarships/fellowships related to international mobility of both incoming and outgoing students.

  • Plan budgets and establish business practices that are designed to mitigate typical risks of international higher education activities -- risks such as currency fluctuation, hiring/employment overseas, and compliance with U.S. and foreign tax regulations.

  • Interface between non-financial employees of affiliated foreign entities and foreign tax/accounting professionals.

  • Provide functional advice and training to non-financial colleagues at IU and overseas on financial management and IU best practices.

  • Assist executives and program management leaders on IU and foreign entity compliance issues, contract review, and human resource activities, with emphasis on how those activities impact sound and timely financial management.

  • Manage annual audit process and tax reporting for affiliated foreign entities.

General Responsibilities


  • Use knowledge and application of accepted procedures and standards.

  • Manage the daily and long-term financial and administrative operations of IU Global.

  • Formulate policies and guidelines for IU Global.

  • Control all expenditures and statement of accounts to ensure regulatory compliance and fiscal integrity.

  • Manage general appropriation, endowment, federal and non-federal grants and contracts, and gift funds.

  • Develop, plan, and implement special projects, which may include space renovations, space allocations, staffing, equipment purchases, long-range plans, leasing of off-campus space and services.

  • Prepare operating and project budget drafts, regularly explain financial concepts to non-financial employees.

  • Monitor budgets and reports any significant deviations from approved budgets.

  • May conduct a variety of human resources activities including employment, labor relations, benefits, training, and classification.

  • May provide functional advice or training to lower-level staff.

EDUCATION



Required



  • Bachelor's degree in finance, business, or related field.


Preferred



  • Master's degree.

  • Knowledge of various fund accounts.

  • Ability to clearly present material and make it accessible to a variety of audiences.

  • Ability to interpret financial documents from an accounting, policy, and practice perspective.


Preferred



  • Experience studying or working overseas or within an international/intercultural organization in the United States.




Working Conditions / Demands



This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

This is an in-person position. Following successful completion of training, this position is eligible for remote work or to work a hybrid schedule (mix between remote and in-person work), subject to change in the future based on university policy and business needs.



Advertised Salary



$75,000 - $80,000 annually.
