SUMMARY



Paragon Professional Services, LLC, a subsidiary of Bering Straits Native Corporation is currently seeking a qualified Site Safety & Health Officer in El Paso, TX. This is a summary of why this position is here. This postion will provide safety training and monitoring for staff in order to mitigate accidents from occuring in the workplace.



Responsibilities




ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES



The Essential Duties and Responsibilities are intended to present a descriptive list of the range of duties performed for this position and are not intended to reflect all duties performed within the job. Other duties may be assigned.Monitor employees safety behavior by providing safety monitoring for staff in the performance of thier duties.

  • Mitigate safety hazards by taking immediate actions with staff to prevent negligence and accidents from occuring.
  • Adminsiter corrective action to staff for unsafe acts.
  • Administer the Site Health & Safety Plan
  • Prepare and update Job Hazard Analysis' as requiredPrepare Traffic Plans and safe walking routes for staff who park offsite. Ensure all workers are trained as appropriate for their assigned dutiesConduct on-site reviews for all projects to ensure that appropriate safety plans and procedures are properlyImplemented and followed
  • Conduct and document "Toolbox Safety Talks" on appropriate, relevant topicsOther duties as assigned / required

QUALIFICATIONS - EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION

Required (Minimum) Qualifications


  • SSHO is also required to have proof of employment for:One (1) years of continuous general industry safety experience in supervising within a correctional or detention setting
  • OSHA 30 Hour training
  • Competent Person Training for Trenching, Excavation, Confined Space, Fall Protection
  • First Aid & CPR Training
  • Candidate must comply with the qualification requirements for an SSHO as outlined in EM285-1-1Section 01.A.17
  • U.S. Citizenship (required for access to secure areas of federal faciltiy)
  • Ability to obtain DHS Public Trust Clearance PRIOR to employement
  • SSHOs shall maintain competency through having taken 80 hours of documentedformal, on-line, or self-study safety and health related coursework every year. Examplesof continuing education activities that meet this requirement are: writing an article, teachinga class, reading/writing professional articles, attendance/participation in professional societies/meetings,etc.
  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing in English and Spanish
  • Ability to use a computer, Word, Excel, E-mail, etc.
  • Additional specialized training or education may be required based upon tasks or hazards associated withspecific Delivery Orders as required by the Government.
  • Experience working with a team to develop means and methods to complete safety mitigation tasks in a safe andefficient manner by identifying proper PPE and equipment.
  • This position requires extensive coordination and time management skills as it requires work across multipleproject as well as back office paperwork and daily field inspections/meetings.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position will be primarly outdoors and employee will be subject to all weather conditions. Employee must be able to work at all times in all outdoor weather conditions, to include constant exposure to sun, exxsseive heat, excessive cold, wind, dust, allergens, rain, muddy conditions and snow.

Essential and marginal functions require maintaining physical condition necessary for bending, stooping, sitting,walking or standing for prolonged periods of time. Additionally, the ability to climb up and down ladders, walk onuneven, shifting surfaces, dirt, mud and gravel & up and down hills as well as occasional work in confined spaces.



WORK ENVIRONMENT



Work Environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be borne by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.


Job is performed both on active construction sites with exposure to all types of weather heat, cold, rain, snow, exposureto dust, dirt and noise, as well as in an office setting with exposure to computer screens and requires extensive use of acomputer, keyboard, mouse and multi-line telephone system. Occasional travel may be required. Occasional "off-shift"evening/weekend/holiday work may be required.



SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES



Supervision of employees and thier safety actions and behavior.



ADDITIONAL QUALIFYING FACTORS



As a condition of employment, candidate would be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening, as well asperiodic random drug screenings, have acceptable reference and background check results to obtain access to secureareas of a military base. Must have reliable transportation to/from work.
