Responsibilities
Position summary
The Mechanical Designer will be responsible for the design, debugging and assembly of new production tooling and equipment according to the organizational standards.
The successful candidate will have strong mechanical design skills and experience with automated equipment solutions.
Essential Job Functions
Design, procurement and fabrication of mechanical tooling and systems for custom automation equipment
Ensure stipulated specifications and requirements are met and delivered within budget and time requirements
Subject matter expert in the design, assembly and debugging of new production tooling and equipment
Optimize current production tooling and equipment
Develop and implement equipment and tooling design per organizational standard and ensure design for manufacturability
Conduct design reviews with key stakeholders (engineering/management/operators) as required following design concept and final print release prior to build/purchase
Estimate production costs, efficiencies, cost saving methods, and the effects of tooling/equipment design changes on cost and efficiency
Evaluate potential solutions to engineering problems for feasibility, manufacturability and cost
Optimize current tooling and equipment
Support and comply with Cretex Quality System, ISO 13485 and when required medical device requirements.
Monitor the utilization of employee safety and OE programs
Read, understand, and follow work instructions and standard work
Partner with the other business segments: sales/marketing, customer service, engineering, quality, and finance
Understand customer needs and the core business markets we serve
Ensure business systems are implemented, maintained, and functioning properly
Participate in required company meetings
Maintain an organized work area (5S)
Participate in the Operational Excellence Program
Complete all other work duties as assigned

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements, Education & Experience
2-year Design related degree
Experience: 3 years machine & tool design using SolidWorks
Working knowledge of mechanical parts as well as computer-aided design (CAD) software, such as AutoCAD and SolidWorks
Experienced working knowledge of metal fabrication, assembly techniques and tolerance capabilities (CNC, EDM, grinding, polishing, water/laser/plasma cutting, heat treatments, surface treatments, and welding)
Strong mechanical/machine building aptitude, troubleshooting and analytical skills
Proficient in designing mechanical systems for complex automation equipment
Ability to follow through on commitments and holds team members accountable
Microsoft Office proficiency (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher)
Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact with various levels of employees and customers
Attention to detail and organization skills
Ability to prioritize, multitask and work independently in a fast-paced team environment solving complex mechanical problems related to automation and machinery design
Desirable Criteria & Qualifications
Experience with servo, stepper motors, drives, vision systems and integrating vision application in robotic systems
Working knowledge of proper drawing standards and Geometric Tolerancing per ASME Y14.5-2009 and Machinery's Handbook
Expert level SolidWorks print detailing and geometric dimension/tolerance (GD&T)
Continuing Education; including participation in local chapters, associations, and/or organizations
Experience with robotic systems and deployment of robotics
Experience/working knowledge with vision systems and integrating vision application in robotic systems
Understanding of common mechanical engineering practices and standards
