Principal Scientist, Consumer Science Skin Health

This position reports into the Associate Director, Skin Health Consumer Science and is based at Skillman, NJ.

What will you do

The Principal Scientist will work within the Consumer Science team as part of an end-to-end R&D organization to support the development of products for the Skin Health category. You will be responsible for consumer research to support multiple brands such as Neutrogena and Aveeno across multiple skin health categories such as face, color cosmetics, body, acne, recreational suncare as well as upstream innovation. You will also work to innovate capabilities including digital research tools along with data science and modeling. As an effective communicator, you will help support a consumer-centric culture in the R&D organization. You will work closely within R&D, marketing, Consumer Business Intelligence and other cross-functional partners to drive project progress.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide strategy and design for exploratory qualitative and quantitative research, product design and optimization research, benchmarking studies, and consumer perceived claims validation studies that are aligned with project teams using modern consumer science research methods

• Identify new methodologies/ approaches/ advanced methods including digital and data science, modeling and/or artificial intelligence approaches to improve effectiveness and efficiency in Consumer Science

• Coordinate the execution of Consumer Science studies and act as liaison with research vendors

• Drive collaboration and communication on cross functional project teams for flawless execution of projects and the consumer learning plan

• Effectively communicate the voice of the consumer to the cross functional team

• Provide analysis and interpretation of results and communication to project teams

• M onitor Consumer Science activities against project plans

• Participate in Global Consumer Science community of practice to support a consumer-centric culture in the R&D organization

• Ensure all activities are conducted in accordance with high ethical/quality standards and all applicable policies and procedures

What we are looking for

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree with at least 6 years or Master's degree with 4-6 years or PhD degree with 2 years of industry and/or relevant work experience in qualitative and quantitative research in Consumer Science or Market Research

• Strong knowledge of qualitative, quantitative and sensory consumer sciences

• Solid understanding of research methods, including behavioral consumer science as well as other relevant methodologies for Consumer Science and/or Product Development with e xperience documenting and interpreting data

• Data science experience and use of digital consumer science tools preferred

• Strong analytical thinking and communication skills and the ability to work independently are required

• Highly collaborative working closely within Consumer Science and cross-functionally with R&D and other business partners
