Job Description:

Brown Universitys A. Alfred Taubman Center for American Politics and Policy and the Department of Political Science seek a Postdoctoral Research Associate in American political behavior and public opinion to join our community of scholars for a one-year position renewable for up to one additional year. Postdoctoral Research Associates are required to teach one course in advanced quantitative methods each year of their position, have an active research program, and contribute to the intellectual community at the Taubman Center and Department of Political Science.

The Taubman Center brings together scholars, practitioners, and students from different perspectives to address important problems facing American politics and policy. Since 1984, the Taubman Center has influenced local, national and global policymakers working at the intersection of research and public engagement. It is one of several research centers within Brown Universitys Watson Institute for International and Public Affairs, which works at the intersection of academia and policy-making to analyze contemporary global problems and to provide initiatives to address them from a multidisciplinary and multinational perspective.

Qualifications

The postdoctoral research associate position is open to candidates in political science, public policy, or related social science fields. Scholars who are ABD or who have received their PhDs within three years of the application deadline are eligible to apply. PDRAs will receive an annual stipend of $75,000 for this benefits-eligible position. Additional funding may be made available for research expenses and research-related programming on campus. Candidates selected for the Postdoctoral Research Associate position must have successfully defended their PhD by July 1, 2025.

A cover letter that summarizes the applicant's research program in American political behavior and public opinion, status and estimate of their dissertation completion date and a description of the type of advanced quantitative methods courses that the candidate could offer during their position. The cover letter should not exceed 2,000 words.

A writing sample.

Three confidential letters of recommendation from scholars familiar with the applicants research.
