Job Description:

Corporate Reporting Internship, Media & Entertainment, Los Angeles (Summer 2025)

The Wall Street Journal internship program is an opportunity primarily for college juniors to work in our award-winning newsroom. Seniors and graduate students enrolled in a degree program by the application deadline are also eligible to apply.

You will work closely with other reporters and editors to deliver prompt, accurate reporting of breaking entertainment-industry news, celebrity and Hollywood-related legal proceedings and, occasionally, earnings. You will be expected to generate your own story ideas for ambitious, colorful features about the television, film and music industry and follow those stories through to completion with supervision and guidance from an editor. Experience with and interest in data analysis and data-driven projects is encouraged.

We are looking for an intern eager to learn about the businesses of entertainment and talent. The ideal candidate will bring fresh perspectives to our coverage of streaming's continued disruption of legacy media and how social media is impacting young audiences' taste and habits.

You should be a self-starter who understands the needs of our audience across multiple platforms and is able to work independently under deadline pressure. Dedication to high journalism standards and excellent writing and reporting skills are required. A demonstrated interest in business reporting is a plus, though prior business/finance reporting experience is not required.

You should have completed at least one prior reporting internship with another professional media organization or published exceptional work with a campus news outlet or as a freelancer.

HOW TO APPLY:

Please upload one PDF document (max. 5MB); You may upload a second PDF with your work examples if the files are large. Your application document should contain:
  • A cover letter.
  • Your résumé.
  • Three examples of your published work. Please include full articles, not hyperlinks.

The deadline to apply is Sunday, Oct. 20, 2024 at midnight Eastern time. Late or incomplete submissions will not be considered.

TIMING:

10 weeks between June and August.

Only finalists will be contacted. We will review applications on a rolling basis and strive to make selections by the end of January.
