About the Department



UChicagoGRAD, a part of the Office of the Provost that supports graduate education across the University, is an innovative national model for preparing graduate students and postdocs to succeed while at UChicago and beyond. With teams focusing on admissions, fellowship advising, writing support and public speaking training, diversity initiatives, career exploration and planning, and administration, UChicagoGRAD works with campus partners to support students and postdocs at every stage of their academic careers and beyond. UChicagoGRAD functions as a one-stop shop for graduate students and postdocs to access resources that support timely degree completion and to enhance professional preparation that helps them translate their degrees into a variety of careers. UChicagoGRAD works with academic departments and divisions as well as campus-wide offices to develop and implement outreach, recruitment, and yield efforts; graduate and postdoc-focused programs, workshops, and events; training and support tailored to UChicago graduate students and postdocs; and administrative practices and policies in support of graduate education.



Job Summary



The job administers a range of programs, workshops, and advising related to graduate student and postdoc scholarly development.



Responsibilities



  • Advise graduate students in one-on-one meetings to help students become acquainted with university resources, apply to fellowship opportunities, and develop essential career skillsets.


  • Develop and lead fellowship and writing programming related to various aspects of scholarly development; regular events include general information sessions, workshops, departmental presentations, and sessions targeted to specific fellowship programs.


  • Coordinate and organize content for information sessions and writing workshops, including inviting speakers, delivering presentations, and conducting outreach to ensure high levels of attendance at events.


  • Provide verbal and written feedback on all aspects of fellowship applications.


  • Contribute to professional development newsletters for master's students, STEM doctoral students, as well as doctoral students in humanities, social sciences, and related divisions and schools. With interns, build monthly fellowships newsletters.


  • Aid in developing website content, database, and fellowships Canvas site to ensure accessibility and continued relevance.


  • Support annual assessment and data collection for fellowships team, including redefining metrics as the unit's needs develop.


  • Serves as liaison with internal and external stakeholders; performs outreach, maintains collaborative partnerships with campus partners, participates in presentations on-/off-campus about UChicagoGRAD services.


  • Assist with supervision of interns with Director of Fellowships.


  • Other duties as assigned, especially for all-hands-on-deck events at UChicagoGRAD.


  • Advises graduate students and postdocs on various aspects of their scholarly development.


  • Develops and leads programs and workshops related to various aspects of scholarly development.


  • Performs other related work as needed.





Minimum Qualifications




Education:

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

Education:



  • Advanced degree in related field.





Experience:



  • At least three years of experience working in higher education or nonprofits.


  • Strong familiarity with graduate education and the varied needs of doctoral and master's students.


  • Familiarity with the range of competitive fellowship opportunities.


  • Familiarity with the culture of a research university and the breadth of university systems.
