Position summary
The Department of Literatures in English at Ithaca College invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor specializing in pre-1900 African American or African Diaspora literature. Normally, faculty will teach 5 courses annually, which will include both upper-level and introductory courses. Ability to teach pre-1900 American literature required, but otherwise the successful candidate will have considerable freedom designing courses that align with their intellectual interests. Interested faculty may also have the opportunity to affiliate with interdisciplinary programs such as the Program in Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, or the Center for the Study of Culture, Race, and Ethnicity.
Position responsibilities
Excellence in teaching is the top priority for all candidates, but faculty are also expected to maintain an active program of research, and to contribute to the college community by advising and mentoring students and participating in curricular planning and committee service.
Required qualifications
A Ph.D. in literature or appropriate equivalent must be awarded by time of appointment. Teaching experience and a strong research profile are required.
Department description
The Department of Literatures in English is an intellectually vibrant community of teacher-scholars and dedicated, inquisitive students. Our discussion-based classes are small (10-25 students), promoting close student-teacher interaction. Our curricular requirements constitute a blend of historically based courses and open electives and offer students the flexibility to combine the major with other majors and/or minors.

Hiring Range:
$62,000 - $66,000, dependent on discipline, qualifications and experience.
