Summary/Objective
To perform the role as a key member of the Office of the Registrar staff in exercising independent judgment and discretion in the areas of enforcing University academic policy and complying with all federal laws pertaining to the confidentiality of student records. Serve as a Designated School Official (DSO) to provide supportive services to international students, as well as assisting them with how to obtain and maintain their status.
Essential Job Duties
Monitor, maintain, and process outgoing SBU transcript requests from current SBU students and alumni through the Registrars Office and Parchment Oversee course schedule procedures for all courses and terms. Ensure that all course schedules are received from deans, off-campus centers and graduate divisions in a timely fashion. Process all course corrections and additions Enforce and comply with FERPA and other federal regulations surrounding the confidentiality of student recordsServes as the Designated School Official (DSO), maintaining the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) and all related certification requirementsResponsible for staying current with regulatory and legislative rules, regulations, and updates affecting international students on F-1 visas. Provides accurate visa maintenance information to international studentsAssists international students with petitions, applications, and other standard issues related to F-1 visa status. This may include new F-1 visas, work permits, reinstatement, change of status, medical leaves, employment and/or reduced course load authorization Work collaboratively across departments to ensure that department services are delivered in a well-integrated, effective and timely manner appropriate to the needs of key constituents Assist the Registrar in the development of policy for the Office of the Registrar. Recommends and implements improvements to office operations; assists with strategic planning Work collaboratively with the Registrar in all office responsibilities and duties Maintain and ensure the integrity of active and inactive undergraduate student files, course schedules and post-graduate student files Answer phone calls and greet visitors to the office Maintain the office in the absence of other personnel. Bachelors degree in related field or relevant experience in higher education Ability to communicate effectively and cooperate with others. Ability to work independently and exhibit good time management skills Ability to multitask and concentrate amid distractions Ability to handle confidential information
Preferred
Masters degree in a related field Two to five years experience in a college setting

Physical Abilities
Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as calculator, copy machine and computer printer Occasionally move about the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc. Frequently communicates with students who have inquiries about their transcript or program evaluation. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations Must be able to operate standard office equipment such as personal computer, fax machine, photocopier, etc. Must be able to remain in a stationary position up to 50% of the time
